Take Warning - The complete studio recordings - Young Flowers

Take Warning - The complete studio recordings
Denmark was already cool before The Killing and Borgen. Julian Cope said Young Flowers’s "The Moment Life Appeared”, from their first album was, "magical”. He also praised their "totally full on freakout style” and pointed to them as precursors of Krautrock.
Take Warning: The Complete Studio Recordings is the first time all of Young Flowers’s recordings have been brought together and anthologises both their albums, their non-album debut single, contributions to the film soundtrack Quiet Days In Clichy and a trio of live tracks which show how raw they could be. This is the Denmark of 1967-1969 at its freakiest.
Young Flowers formed in summer 1967. They headlined Copenhagen’s Festival of the Flower Children in September 1967.
The first Danish hippy band, the first Danish rock band to sing in their native language and the first Danish band to play the States; they were pioneers.
Members later played with the legendary Culpeper’s Orchard and Savage Rose. They immediately hit big with debut album Blomsterpistolen (Flower Gun), recorded as the soundtrack to surreal TV series.
A trio, and although influenced by Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, their intense music had an experimental edge. They set Walt Whitman's poetry to music. The definitive, band-approved, collection, Take Warning: The Complete Studio Recordings is a tribute to a unique band.

Bonnie Dobson
Best known as the writer of the apocalyptic '60s folk-rock standard "Morning Dew", Canadian Bonnie Dobson became a mover on the Chicago and New York folk revival scenes and released five albums in the acoustic folk style between 1960 and 1964. She returned to Toronto in 1965 and continued playing the coffee house circuit without recording any more albums. By the time "Morning Dew" was being widely recorded by the likes of Fred Neil & Vince Martin (the first to cover it), Tim Rose, The Grateful Dead, Lulu, The Jeff Beck Group and Episode Six in the late '60s she'd upped sticks and moved to England, home of her songwriter heroes Jackson C Frank, Ralph McTell and Bert Jansch. Signing to RCA Records, she cut a highly-orcestrated version of "Morning Dew" at their suggestion for her self-titled 1969 'comeback' album, along with strong original material like "I'm Your Woman" and "I Got Stung" and covers of hippy-era folk-rock reliables "Everybody's Talkin'", "Let's Get Together" and "You Never Wanted Me". Dobson's live UK debut was at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in November 1969 and she became a familiar presence on British and European TV and radio for a couple of years. The 1970 follow-up album Good Morning Rain took her MOR/orchestral folk leanings to their logical conclusion and will appear on Rev-Ola in the near future. First time on CD for this 1969 folk-rock jewel! Includes the author's own version of her standard "Morning Dew" alongside songs by Fred Neil, Jackson C Frank and Dino Valente! Features in-depth liner notes with brand new interview material! Remastered in the usual mind-blowing Rev-Ola style! A must for all fans of folk-rock, singer-songwriters, female troubadours, orchestrated torch songs and good ole quality late '60s pop music! Our Price: £9.95

The Graham Gouldman Thing
Somewhere between his much-respected mid '60s stint penning quirky yet classic hits for The Hollies, Herman's Hermits, The Yardbirds, Cher, Gene Pitney, Wayne Fontana and his huge success as a member of 10CC in the '70s, Manchunian pop genius Graham Gouldman could be found getting stuck into any number of interesting recording projects and bizarre pseudonym releases! . Almost as an afterthought, Gouldman found himself as a bona fide solo artist, releasing the atypical R&B stomper 'Stop Stop Stop' (no relation to the Hollies tune) on Decca in 1966 before switching to RCA for his first solo album "The Graham Gouldman Thing" in 1968. The album features several of his hits ("For Your Love", "Bus Stop", "Pamela Pamela", "No Milk Today") alongside some less familiar gems ("The Impossible Years", "Pawnbroker", "Behind The Door", "My Father") re-worked in a beautiful baroque 'n' roll style setting string quartets against funky backbeats and electric guitar flash. It's in much the same ball-park as our recent Tony Hazzard Sings Tony Hazzard reissue with the added bonus of being conceived as an album and not demos. Amazingly, the album wasn't even a granted a UK release but it leaked out in America where it sold squat and then promptly disappeared, only becoming a cult collectors item over the ensuing 30-odd years. Now available; re-mastered in the usual dazzling Rev-Ola!

The Rise And Fall Of Honesty
Released on 29/03/10. A masterpiece of psychedelic Americana: Maffitt & Davies came with the same batch of oddities on Capitol as Euphoria, Food and Common People. A strange batch to be sure, of orchestral psychpop and folk-rock which is only now being rediscovered and loved... There are many gems on this exceptional album... Bob Dylan’s Just Like A Woman is transformed into heartbreaking orchestrated folkrock... Forest Lawn, the album’s undeservedly failed single, has a distinct Face to Face Kink¹s sound replete with dobro and freaky church organ. Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues the other Dylan cover on this record takes a Byrds/Everly Brothers vocal harmony approach reminiscent of nothing less than late 60s Dillards on their folk-rock outings. A visionary slice of American music that predates the alt. country/folk boom by a mile -dark lyrics, strings, phasing and tablas abound. In addition to the album, we have a batch of outtakes and single tracks which will take your breath away; all in all a wonderful new discovery.... Our Price: £9.95

The Beautiful Changes
DUE 31ST MAY 2012!

Cherry Tree Records is pleased and extremely excited to announce the reissue of the original 1971 EMI recording of Julie Covington’s debut solo album The Beautiful Changes. Unavailable for many years with original copies fetching legendarily large sums on eBay, the album is one of the great ‘lost’ masterpieces of the era—affection and admiration for it continues to grow among the many fans and aficionados of intelligent and ornate early ’70s pop.

Penned almost entirely by acclaimed songwriters Pete Atkin and Clive James, this album was recorded at EMI’s renowned Abbey Road studios. Produced by Don Paul and impeccably arranged by Nick Harrison, Don Fraser and Pete Atkin himself, The Beautiful Changes is a baroque pop tour de force that captures Julie Covington’s intense and expressive voice across her eclectic selection of material, including classic torch songs, lyrical ballads and character vignettes.Includes a beautifully produced 16-page booklet with reminiscences and tracking notes written by Ms. Covington together with photographs from her archive.

It also includes recollections from Pete Atkin, Don Paul and Don Fraser as well as session notes and complete lyrics. The epic closer ‘My Silks And Fine Array’ appeared on St Etienne’s 2004 compilation CD, The Trip.
