Spoiled Girl - Carly Simon

Spoiled Girl
Carly Simon shot to fame in the early seventies with a string of critically acclaimed singles & albums on the Elektra label. As well as the iconic hits ‘You’re So Vain’ & ‘Nobody Does It Better’ (from "The Spy Who Loved Me”) she enjoyed further US successes with the hits ‘That’s The Way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be’, ‘Anticipation’, ‘Mockingbird’ (with James Taylor) and ‘You Belong To Me.’
After a less successful stint on Warner Bros. and a divorce from fellow singer/songwriter James Taylor, Carly signed with Epic Records in 1985 who teamed her up with some of the hottest Pop & Dance producers of the day including Arthur Baker, Don Was, Phil Ramone and Paul Samwell-Smith. The resulting album was SPOILED GIRL.
Though the album did not reach sales expectations in 1985 it has since become something of a cult classic and is seen by many as one of the most cohesive, well written and produced multi-producer albums of the mid-eighties.
TIRED OF BEING BLONDE was released as the first single and returned Carly to the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.
MY NEW BOYFRIEND was the albums second single and featured Carly in a New Wave/Dance setting. THE WIVES ARE IN CONNECTICUT caught the attention of Mike Nichols and Norah Efron who invited Simon to write the theme song for their upcoming movie Heartburn resulting in her comeback hit Coming Around Again.

Press:-

"The group's first, breakthrough set for Philly International, released in 1972, featuring and making a star of Teddy Pendergrass. It's the set that gave the world If You Don't Know Me By Now, of course: one of the most instantly recognisable intros of all time backed up by one of Teddy's signature vocals. It was pure deep soul as a pop hit - now that hasn't happened too often". 5*

New Horizon- Expanded Edition
The 1977 release of New Horizon, the first of five albums for Polydor, was largely considered a return to form for Isaac Hayes. In addition to changing label, the soul legend brought his sound into the disco era with mixes by the legendary Tom Moulton.

The album features the funky and light-hearted Out Of The Ghetto, a track which not only returned Ike to the R&B singles chart but also showed his wry humorous side.

Also featured on the album is the slow-burning Don’t Take Your Love Away, in the classic Hayes ballad style. Swiftly recorded by Dionne Warwick, this became the template for their hit collaboration Déjà Vu two years later. In addition, the album features a disco update of the classic Stranger In Paradise which, together with Moonlight Lovin , made #16 on the Disco chart. The album reached #26 R&Band #78 Pop. BBR is proud to present NEW HORIZON in full expanded form, complete with extensive liner notes featuring an interview with Tom Moulton along with added bonus tracks.

Don’t Let Go : Expanded Edition
Soul legend ISAAC HAYES released his third Polygram album DON’T LET GO in 1979, at the height of the Disco era. After his first two albums for the label had performed respectively, this time the title track gave him an out-and-out hit.

Originally a hit for ROY HAMILTON in 1957, DON’T LET GO returned Ike to both the R&B top 20 and the Pop top 20 in addition to reaching #3 on the Disco chart. A FEW MORE KISSES TO GO, another self-penned ballad, proved a modest R&B hit at the time but is still heard on Quiet Storm radio today.

In addition, the album features a Disco version (possibly the first ever) of the PEGGY LEE classic, FEVER. The album reached #9 R&B and #39 Pop and was certified Gold. This reissue features six bonus tracks including the 7” B-side YOU CAN’T HOLD YOUR WOMAN and 12” remixes of DON’T LET GO and A FEW MORE KISSES TO GO.

Turning Point : Expanded Edition
Released on 23rd of January. Known as the first family of gospel, The Staple Singers were established as international hit-makers thanks to classics such as ‘Respect Yourself’ and ‘I’ll Take You There,’ recorded for Stax Records in the ‘70s. After recording for Warner Brothers and 20th Century Records, the group (Pops, Mavis, Yvonne and Cleotha) signed with Private I Records and released TURNING POINT, their debut album for the label in 1984.

All but two tracks were produced by Pervis Staples and Stax producer/engineer Henry Bush and featured a number of key Memphis musicians. Gary Goetzman and Mike Piccirillo (who had worked with various artists including Thelma Houston and Smokey Robinson) were responsible for ‘This Is Your Night’ and ‘Slippery People,’ a song composed by guitarist David Byrne, lead singer of Talking Heads who had recorded the song a year earlier. Byrne was one of the musicians on the Staples’ recording session of the song.
