Samantha Fox - Samantha Fox

Samantha Fox
"Samantha Fox", the 1987 sophomore album from the perennial pop icon and pin-up, receives a Deluxe Edition reissue on Cherry Pop.

Developing Samantha’s pop-rock sound and broadening her appeal, "Samantha Fox" features five UK hit singles, the irresistible Stock Aitken Waterman classic "Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now" (#8), "I Surrender (To The Spirit Of The Night)" (#25), "I Promise You (Get Ready)", "True Devotion" and "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)" (#31) – Samantha’s first collaboration with Full Force, which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her most successful single Stateside.
Digitally remastered direct from the master tapes, this Deluxe Edition brings together the original 10-track album with 20 bonus tracks across two CDs. Sought-after B-sides and many 12" mixes originally only issued on vinyl feature alongside two unheard tracks, "The Right Stuff" and "Hot Tonight", which was later reworked as "Hot For You" on Samantha’s 1989 album "I Wanna Have Some Fun". Also featured are unheard mixes of "I Surrender (To The Spirit Of The Night)" and Samantha’s cover of the Stones’ classic "(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction", which was initially considered for release as a sixth single from the album in mid-1988.

Compiled with personal input from Samantha herself, the extensive booklet also features many additional photos, a fully illustrated discography and recording data, full lyrics and new sleeve notes written especially for this release.
The only British female artist to score three Top Ten hits on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1980s, Samantha Fox made her name as the nation’s favourite Page Three girl before launching an enviable music career. The anthemic "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" became a global chart-topper in 1986 and was followed by a succession of hits, including several collaborations with both the legendary Stock Aitken Waterman and US hip-hop pioneers Full Force. Samantha remains a household name, with a new album planned for 2012 and live dates across Europe.

"Samantha Fox" coincides with accompanying Deluxe Editions of Sam’s other three Jive albums: 1986’s "Touch Me", 1989’s "I Wanna Have Some Fun" and 1991’s "Just One Night", and follows many other popular PWL-related reissues on Cherry Pop from artists such as Mel & Kim, Sinitta, Hazell Dean, Sonia, Boy Krazy, Brother Beyond, Pepsi & Shirlie and O’chi Brown.

Press:-

"Fox's self-titled second album was huge, spinning off five chart entries in the UK and spawning the biggest of her six US hits via Naughty Girls (Need Love Too), on which Fox raps alongside then hot hip-hoppers Full Force". Music Week, 03/08/12

Contact- Expanded Edition
THE POINTER SISTERS remain one of the most successful female groups the music industry has seen with 13 top 20 singles and 8 top 40 albums shared between the US and UK pop charts. In 1985 the Pointer Sisters released CONTACT, the first of 3 albums on RCA after their incredibly successful period with Planet Records. CONTACT was the follow up to the triple platinum selling album, Break Out, and was once again produced by Richard Perry. CONTACT quickly attained platinum selling status in the US upon its release. The number one dance hit, DARE ME, written by David Innis and Sam Lorber, achieved #6 R&B and #11 Pop positions and climbed to #17 on the UK Pop charts. More recently the track became the basis for the massive new millennium dance hits Stupidisco (Junior Jack) and Make Your Move (Dave Armstrong). Contact also features the #25 R&B hit ballad FREEDOM and the #15 Dance hit, Twist My Arm written by Andy Goldmark and Bruce Roberts. Contact also features writing contributions by future eighties hit makers Mr. Mister on Back In My Arms, Burn Down The Night and Hey You with additional writing from Robbie Nevil who attained major chart success in his own right with C’est La Vie the following year.

I Wanna Have Some Fun
"I Wanna Have Some Fun", the third album from perennial pop icon and pin-up Samantha Fox, is given a Deluxe Edition reissue on Cherry Pop.

Originally issued in 1989, "I Wanna Have Some Fun" features three UK hit singles, "Love House" (#32), a Stock Aitken Waterman-produced cover of the Dusty Springfield classic "I Only Wanna Be With You" (#16), and the title track – Samantha’s second collaboration with Full Force, which hit #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her third US Top 10 hit in two years. More danceable and eclectic than Samantha’s previous albums, "I Wanna Have Some Fun" also found her collaborating with a diverse selection of the world’s top producers, from Fred Zarr, Bolland & Bolland and Detroit techno legend Kevin Saunderson to Grammy-nominated rock luminary Chris Tsangarides.

Digitally remastered direct from the master tapes, this Deluxe Edition brings together the original 12-track album with 21 bonus tracks across two CDs. Many sought-after and previously unavailable mixes feature alongside Samantha’s featured appearance on the Full Force single "All I Wanna Do…" and two unreleased tracks recorded for the album but ultimately shelved – the Fred Zarr-produced "Shout It Out" and Stock Aitken Waterman’s "Too Late To Say Goodbye", subsequently recorded by Jason Donovan for his debut album "Ten Good Reasons".

Compiled with personal input from Samantha herself, the extensive booklet also features many additional photos, a fully illustrated discography and recording data, full lyrics and new sleeve notes written especially for this release.

Gap Band IV: Expanded Edition
•    THE GAP BAND enjoyed huge success throughout the 70s and 80s with their unique sound and contribution to the Funk scene. Formed in 1967 in their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, brothers Charlie, Ronnie and Robert Wilson first went by the name Greenwood, Archer and Pine Street Band, later shortening the name to THE GAP BAND in 1973. LA Producer, Lonnie Simmons, signed them to his label, Total Experience Records, setting in motion what would be the start of a long and prosperous relationship between THE GAP BAND and Simmons.

•    The group scored many notable hits in the late 1970's and early 1980's including ‘Shake’ (R&B #4), ‘I Don't Believe You Want To Get Up And Dance (Oops!, Up Side Your Head)’ (R&B #4) and ‘Burn Rubber (Why You Wanna Hurt Me)’ (R&B #1) before releasing this, their most successful album, GAP BAND IV, in 1982. Charting at #1 R&B and #14 Pop GAP BAND IV achieved platinum status and provided two #1 R&B hit singles.

•    The first single and opening track from the album was ‘Early In The Morning,’ a full on, uplifting, electro funk groove with a superb fuzzed up bassline and singer Charlie Wilson's arresting vocals. Peaking at  #1 R&B and remaining on the R&B singles chart for an unprecedented 24 weeks,  ‘Early In The Morning’ set the tone for the subsequent singles. ‘You Dropped A Bomb On Me,’ another funky dance floor number with an equally superb bassline, peaked at #2 R&B before third single ‘Outstanding,’ a very soulful mid-tempo groove with beautiful harmonies, fluid piano parts and interesting percussion matched ‘Early In  The Morning’ by reaching #1 R&B and also staying on the chart for 24 weeks.

•    BBR is very proud to present GAP BAND IV, expertly remastered and complete with extensive liner notes and bonus tracks. Essential listening for all R&B, Soul, Funk and Disco fans and the fourth BBR remaster of The Gap Band's studio albums
