Love Connection - Dells (The)

Love Connection
The mighty mighty DELLS enjoyed an amazing run of hits, starting in 1956 with "Oh What A Night” and continuing from 1966 to 1974 with Cadet Records (the Chess subsidiary). In 1975, the soulful quintet signed with Mercury Records for a four-album association.
Released in 1977 as the follow up to "THEY SAID IT COULDN’T BE DONE, BUT WE DID IT!”(reissued in 2012 on SoulMusic Records, SMCR 5046), LOVE CONNECTION - making its worldwide CD debut with this reissue - saw The Dells returning to Philadelphia to work with the top-notch "Harris Machine” production team (which included Norman Harris, Earl Young and Ron Baker of The Trammps).
The Dells teamed with arrangers Ron Kersey, T.G. Conway and Allan Felder, songwriters such as (future Temptation) Ron Tyson and top Philly session musicians for the album, much in-demand by their many fans worldwide who consider LOVE CONNECTION as one of their best group’s best recordings of the ‘70s.
LOVE CONNECTION reached the Top 50 on the US R&B charts and included the R&B chart hit, ‘Private Property.’ This expanded edition includes a single edit of the track.
2012 marks the group’s 60th anniversary and to commemorate it, SoulMusic Records is reissuing this great album. Includes notes by Rico Washington with quotes from Chuck of The Dells among others.

Wanna Make Love / Sun-Power
Originally formed in Dayton, Ohio, the self-contained group Sun became prime purveyors of ‘funk and soul alongside other Ohio funkateers such as Bootsy Collins, Dazz Band, Lakeside, Zapp, Slave and of course, the Ohio Players in the ‘70s and early ‘80s.
Founding member Byron Byrd formed a number of different bands before a 1974 iteration (Overnight Low) became Sun after beginning to work with producer Beau Ray Fleming who’d seen the group open for Mandrill. Fleming in turn introduced the newly-named Sun to Capitol executive Larkin Arnold and in 1976, the group cut its funk-filled debut for the label.
Originally entitled "Live On, Dream On,” the nine-track album took off when the single, ‘Wanna Make Love (Come Flick My BIC)’ began spiralling up the U.S. R&B, dance and pop charts spurred on by a campaign by the makers of BIC pens. The album WANNA MAKE LOVE performed well and decades later, the key cut ‘My Woman’ was sampled by a number of prominent rap and hip-hop artists.
In 1977, Capitol issued the sophomore set by the group - expanded from seven to ten members - entitled SUN-POWER. The eight-track set - which became Sun’s highest-charting Capitol album - containing future sampled tracks ‘Conscience’ and ‘Time Is Passing’ is making its worldwide CD release which includes notes by renowned U.S. writer Rico Washington and is part of SoulMusic Records’ classic funk series.

In The Mood
Tyrone Davis is one of the most highly acclaimed Soul/Blues singers in music history. With his distinctive gritty and soulful vocal, he scored 3 #1 US R&B hits along with numerous other appearances in the US Pop and R&B singles and album charts and recorded more than 25 albums during a career that spanned over 40 years!
Tyrone Davis spent 7 years signed to Dakaar Records, releasing 7 albums and 25 singles enjoying significant chart success until 1976 saw him find a new home on Columbia Records. In 1979 TYRONE DAVIS released his 4th effort on Columbia, IN THE MOOD with TYRONE DAVIS which went on to become one of his most successful albums gaining a top 10 spot on the US R&B Album chart while containing 2 successful singles.
Production was organized by Chicago based songwriter/producer Leo Graham who penned a string of hits for Davis including his #1 single Turning Point, released in 1975. Notable tracks include the smooth and soulful second single AIN’T NOTHING I CAN DO, and of course the title track which climbed all the way to #6 on the US R&B charts. The upbeat and funky KEEP ON DANCIN” and YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO contrast the slower soulful cuts on the album fantastically.

Complete with extensive liner notes and extended bonus content, this BBR Remaster is a must have for all Soul, Funk R&B and Disco fans out there!
