So Where Are You? EXPANDED EDITION - Loose Ends

So Where Are You? EXPANDED EDITION
Considered the premier U.K. soul band of the 80s and on to the 90s, Loose Ends was formed in 1981 with an original line-up of Carl McIntosh, Steve Nicholls and Jane Eugene.

The original 1985 UK album of SO WHERE ARE YOU? reached No. 13 on the pop charts with the club classic Hanging On A String (Contemplating) also reaching No. 13 on the singles chart, also topping the US R&B chart as a key cut on the US version of the group’s debut LP, A LITTLE SPICE (reissued on SMCR 5034 by SoulMusic.com Records in November 2011). Two further singles, Magic Touch and a cover of David Bowie s Golden Years were also UK chart makers. Tracks from SO WHERE ARE YOU? were used for the group’s third US release Zagora.

Like its processor, SO WHERE ARE YOU? was produced by Philadelphia-based Nick Martinelli and includes key cuts such as the classic track You Can't Stop The Rain were written by the trio.

Press:-

"It was the group’s second album, 1985’s ‘So Where Are You?’ that catapulted Loose Ends into soul music’s major league. The set’s lead single was the amazing ‘Hangin On A String,’ which is arguably one of the greatest songs that has been penned by a home-grown act.”

Different Light
Different Light is an album by The Bangles released in January 1986. It is their best known album, with a Top 5 hit single and a No. 1 hit. The album s Top 40 sound was a departure from their earlier 60s style sound. This was the first album in which bassist Michael Steele sings lead vocals on some tracks.

Three of five singles were written by someone other than the Bangles: Manic Monday (written by Prince under the pseudonym Christopher), If She Knew What
She Wants and Walk Like An Egyptian . The other two singles were Following and Walking Down Your Street .

This reissue contains a whole bonus disc of rare b-sides some appearing for the first time on CD and the booklet is packed with rare covers and a note by Mojo’s Daryl Easlea.

Big Bang! 2CD
Field #11 not in Database

The four Queens of the Galaxy ride again! Three years, four galaxies and a zillion zany adventures after the release of their debut of their debut album 'Bostin' Steve Austin' the mighty We've Got A Fuzzbox And We're Gonna Use it!! returned to Earth from their extended hiatus on the planet Lovely, with this their second coming - 'Big Bang!'
The first single launched from the album, International Rescue [UK #11] rocketed its way into the the UK single charts and a new age of Fuzzbox begun. Gone were the mohair jumpers, day-glo hair and so-called "musical ineptitude" that had first enamoured them to the world, replaced instead with co-ordinating military style uniforms, a refined glamour and a slick Fairlight production style, whilst still retaining their unique charm and wit. The accompanying promo video for International Rescue, directed by comedy genius Adrian Edmondson (The Young Ones & Bottom) became an intergalactic hit upon its release, fueled by its Thunderbirds meets Barbarella sci-fi action theme, and Fuzzbox we're beamed into the homes of millions of TV viewers across the land, becoming instant media darlings in the process. Fuzzbox were go!
Whilst the albums second single; Pink Sunshine [UK #14] stalled at the upper-end of the UK Top #20, despite being the bands biggest selling single to date, Fuzzbox's star could not have shone brighter. Six Top of The Pop's performances, Capital Radio promotional shows and endless magazine covers including the NME, Smash Hits and Record Mirror followed. The third single from Big Bang!, the rockier, Self! [UK #24], earned the band their third consecutive chart entry single and even featured a guest guitar performance from the legendary Brian May (Queen), it seemed everybody wanted in on the fuzz.
Released in August, 1989, Big Bang! [UK #5] was certified Gold upon its release for initial sales in excess of 250,000 in the UK alone and received critical acclaim from champions old and new, including a 4/5 review from Q Magazine, who praised the band for their musical evolution and song-writing prowess.
Despite the bands desire to take Big Bang! out on tour their promotional commitments made this impossible, much to their chagrin. As tensions grew between the band members, so did those with their record company, this was brought to a head when Fuzzbox's plan to release the fan favourite Fast Forward Futurama as the fourth cut from the album was overruled in favor of the Yoko Ono cover Walking on Thin Ice [UK #76] by label bigwigs, resulting in a minor hit. A promotional tour of the Far East followed and brought 1989 to a climactic end.
The band returned to the studio in 1990 to begin work on their ill-fated third album, tentatively titled Out of this World; with producer Leigh Roy Gorman (Bow Wow Wow). However, after the limited release of the single Your Loss My Gain [UK #100], Jo, Maggie, Tina and ViX halted production on the album and opted to disband; citing "musical differences", thus bringing about the end of an incredible five year journey and leaving behind a musical legacy that is still unsurpassed, as the UK's most successful all-female band.
This special 2CD Orgasmatron Edition of the album finally finds its way back to Earth on Cherry Red Records, 14 years after it's debut release on WEA Records. CD1 offers the original 10 track album digitally remastered in all its gloriousness, whilst CD2 offers up a 15 track bonus journey into the furthest reaches of space, time and the latter day Fuzzbox archives, featuring: 12-inch mixes, B-sides, rarities, CD exclusives, recordings from the Out of This World sessions and the 2004 Syndrum Mix of Fast Forward Futurama featuring Manda Rin (Bis). The expanded CD booklet features sleeve notes, complete with original and expanded artwork.

Friends 2CD
Shalamar’s Friends was one of the biggest and most celebrated classic soul albums of the 1980s. BBR is proud to present the first ever deluxe edition of the album.
Shalamar was formed in 1977 by Dick Griffey, the booking agent for the legendary R&B TV show Soul Train, and British music producer, Simon Soussan. Initially they used faceless session musicians but when their first single, ‘Uptown Medley’ (R&B #10 / Pop #25) found chart success Griffey created a permanent group. After ‘Take That To The Bank’ (US R&B #11 / Pop #79) Shalamar’s classic line-up of Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniel and Howard Hewitt continued to have chart success on both sides of the Atlantic with infectious pop-soul cuts like ‘The Second Time Around’ (US R&B #1 / Pop #8) and ‘Make That Move’ (US R&B #6 / Pop #60) all released on Griffey’s Solar imprint.
In 1982 the group released their seventh studio album FRIENDS, which enhanced on the soul groove sound that had brought the group previous success. The opening track and lead US single from the album ‘A Night To Remember’ (US R&B #8 / Pop #44) became an instant R&B classic. The second single in the US was the album closer ‘I Can Make You Feel Good’ (US R&B #33 / Pop #102), another classic mid-tempo R&B dancer that does exactly as it suggests.
FRIENDS enjoyed massive popularity and unprecedented chart success in the UK, becoming one of the biggest selling alums of the year. FRIENDS peaked at #6 on the UK album chart during an incredible 72-week run. The four singles for the UK market, ‘I Can Make You Feel Good’, ‘A Night To Remember’, ‘There It Is’ and ‘Friends’ reached #7, #5, #5 and #12 respectively on the UK singles chart helping Shalamar retain huge popularity to this day. Jeffrey Daniel introduced body popping and the back slide (later renamed the moon walk by Daniel’s student, Michael Jackson) to UK TV audiences on Top Of The Pops in July of 1982 when promoting ‘A Night to Remember’.
BBR is very proud to bring you FRIENDS, completely re-mastered and repackaged complete with extensive liner notes and extended bonus content including a new interview with Jody Watley and a second disc of alternative versions from the US and UK single releases. FRIENDS is a must have for all R&B, SOUL, 80s POP and DISCO fans out there!

Maid In England
DIVINE (born Harris Glenn Milstead) was a drag performer who came to prominence as a cult movie star appearing in several John Waters films such as Pink Flamingos, Polyester and Hairspray.
In 1979 Divine released the dance single "Born To Be Cheap”, and although the track didn’t make a huge impact it started a new chapter in his career where he released a succession of camp and fun dance hits which filled the floors of predominantly gay club nights throughout the 80’s.
The compilation MAID IN ENGLAND, released in 1988, was the all-round performers fourth and last LP and features several of Divine’s Hi-NRG and Disco hits including the 1984 UK top 20 hit ‘You Think You’re A Man’ as well as ‘I’m So Beautiful’ (both produced by Stock/Aitken/Waterman) and re-mixes of ‘Walk Like A Man’ and Sam Cooke’s ‘Twistin’ The Night Away’.
DIVINE is hugely respected cult figure in both the film and music world and still a great inspiration to many people due to his exuberant persona and performances.
Cherry Pop is very proud to present MAID IN ENGLAND, expertly remastered and complete with liner notes and bonus tracks.
