Strangelands - Crazy World Of Arthur Brown (The)

Strangelands
Released on 28/03/11. Esoteric Recordings are pleased to release the classic lost album by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Strangelands. Recorded in the Autumn of 1969, the sessions were an attempt to resurrect the Crazy World by Arthur Brown and featured some classic material. Divided into four sub-headings, ( The Country, The City, The Cosmos and The Afterlife ), Strangelands was certainly ahead of its time but failed to gain a full release for nearly two decades. In hindsight, the material can be seen as the blueprint for Arthur s next project, the innovative Kingdom Come.

This Esoteric Recordings reissue also adds the legendary Replicas sessions by Rustic Hinge. Featuring Crazy World drummer Drachan Theaker and guitarist Andy Rickell, the project was originally intended to feature Arthur Brown as vocalist and also featured the legendary High Tide guesting on one track. With Brown leaving the group to form the first incarnation of Kingdom Come, Rustic Hinge would eventually release material on John Peel’Dandelion label, whilst the Replicas sessions would remain unreleased for a further 20 years. This Esoteric reissue has been newly re-mastered and includes a new essay.

Some People
Released 20/04/09. Born Neville Keighley, Some released his first LP 'Some People' in 1985 and the title track was a club hit. Although Some's contribution to the Pretty in Pink soundtrack, "Round, Round," did not penetrate the mainstream, it introduced Some to an audience outside of discotheques. Produced by Bernard Edwards, "Round, Round" had enough electric guitars to seduce rock fans while maintaining the interest of the dance crowd with its pounding groove.

‘Imagination', a song from 'Some People', was reissued in 1986, peaking at number 17 on the U.K. pop charts. Both ‘Some People' and ‘Imagination' were remixed several times. In 1987, Some recorded his self-titled second album, but it failed to duplicate the success of his debut. Some then disappeared from the music scene, lost in an '80s "Where Are They Now?" file until 1993 when he released Living Your Life. Contains the top 20 hit ‘Imagination'

Once Upon A Time
Released 18/08/08. Paris 1919. Playwright, novelist, poet, surrealist, filmmaker and self-publicist Jean Cocteau was the literary spokesman for Les Six. With his endorsement, and the inspiration of Erik Satie and fired by the principles of Dada and surrealism, the group, comprising Francis Poulenc, Arthur Honegger, Darius Milhaud, Georges Auric, Germaine Tailleferre and Louis Durey, expressed their irreverence towards the twin spectres of lifeless tradition and bloodless modernism. They embraced the previously forbidden worlds of popular song, 'primitive' music and jazz and in so doing, helped purge the classical music establishment of its deeply ingrained snobbery and pave the way for generations of iconoclasts - in classical, jazz and rock music - still to come. Our edition comprises famous examples of the work of this group of composers who so scandalised twenties Paris Pacific 231, Les Biches, Le Boeuf sur le Toit and La Creation du Monde along with themes from Georges Auric’s scores for Cocteau’s the very influential surrealistic film fantasies; Orphée (Orpheus), La belle et la bête (Beauty and the Beast) and L'aigle à deux têtes (The Eagle has Two Heads) Our Price: £9.95
