Cardiac Arrest & We All Know Who We Are
Released on 21/06/10. In the world of funk, Cameo stand as one of the precious stones in the crown. A band that had the ability to take funk rhythms, make them danceable yet also retain a high degree of musicianship.

Their excellent debut album, 1977s Cardiac Arrest, was highlighted by four singles. Three of those hit the Billboard R&B chart. 1978 saw the release of their second and third albums. The second title of our two on one CD is We All Know Who We Are , which saw Cameo becoming increasingly successful.

This got into the top 60 on the mainstream chart and number 15 on the R&B countdown. The single It’s Serious not only gave the band a Top 20 R&B hit but also got onto the all important dance chart, hitting number 21. Livin' In The New Wave
André Cymone’s childhood friend and one-time bandmate, Prince, once described him as being heaven sent. Having grown up together and lived together, Cymone played bass for Prince’s backing band in the days before it was called The Revolution. But by 1981 he went solo, signing with Columbia Records and launching a career as a New Wave/Funk artist.
LIVIN’ IN THE NEW WAVE was Cymone’s debut solo LP in 1982 and see’s him not only writing but also producing all the songs on this groundbreaking album. It laid the groundwork for his hit single, The Dance Electric, as well as further production work most notably with future wife Jody Watley. He went on to produce her two R&B #1 tracks Looking For A New Love and Real Love.
LIVIN’ IN THE NEW WAVE was the debut single from the album and KELLY’S EYES was the follow up. Both singles made headway on the US R&B charts in 1982 and began building a strong fan base that remains to this day.

Survivin' in the 80's
His childhood friend and one-time bandmate, Prince, once described Andre Cymone as being heaven sent. Having grown up together and lived together, Cymone played bass for Prince’s backing band in the days before it was called The Revolution. By 1981, relations between Prince and Cymone had broken down and he went solo, signing with Columbia Records and launching a career as a New Wave/Funk artist.
SURVIVIN’ IN THE 80’S was Andre’s second solo album and gained him the #31 spot on the R&B charts shortly after it’s release on Columbia Records in 1983. Not only did Andre write all the songs on SURVIVIN’ IN THE 80’S, it was produced and mixed by him too. He is also responsible for half of the drumming and synthesizers that you’ll hear on this amazing album.
SURVIVIN’ IN THE 80’S laid the groundwork for his hit Dance Electric as well as further production work most notably with future wife Jody Watley. He went on to produce her two R&B #1 tracks Looking For A New Love and Real Love.
MAKE ME WANNA DANCE was the first single from SURVIVIN’ IN THE 80’S and peaked at R&B #37 shortly followed by the title track.

Good Love
Following the well-received 2012 reissue of her 1986 Capitol debut album DO ME BABY (SMCR-5044), SoulMusic Records presents the New York-born singer-songwriter’s sophomore album for the label, GOOD LOVE.
Meli’sa Morgan’s career skyrocketed with her 1985 cover of Prince’s ‘Do Me Baby,’ a No. 1 U.S. R&B single and U.S. Top 50 pop hit.
Like her successful album debut, 1987’s GOOD LOVE featured production by Paul Laurence and five tracks co-produced by Meli’sa and co-writer Lesette Wilson. In addition, hitmaker in his own right, producer/songwriter Kashif produced his duet with Mel’isa on ‘Love Changes’ a cover of the Mother’s Finest recording that gave the duo a No. 2 R&B hit in 1987; while Brian and Shelly Morgan and the team of Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers also contributed to the album.
GOOD LOVE became a Top 20 R&B Album best-seller and has long been out of print on CD. This expanded edition features six bonus tracks including a club mix of the No. 2 U.S. R&B hit, ‘If You Can Do It: I Can Too!’, an extended remix of the album’s title track and an eight-minute plus ‘Special Club Opus’ mix of ‘Here Comes The Night,’ a 1988 Top 30 R&B hit for Meli’sa.
Notes by renowned U.S. writer Justin Kantor include quotes from 2013 interviews with Meli’sa and Kashif for this reissue.

Somewhere In My Lifetime
The much-loved and much-missed songstress Phyllis Hyman’s debut album for Arista Records, 1979’s SOMEWHERE IN MY LIFETIME was an amalgam of six tracks from Sing A Song, her second LP for Buddah Records and four new tracks she recorded after Buddah became defunct and was bought by Arista.
With production by T. Life, her then-husband Larry Alexander and renowned songwriter Skip Scarborough and Arista labelmate Barry Manilow (responsible with Ron Dante for the title track), SOMEWHERE IN MY LIFETIME featured major players such as Onaje Allen Gumbs, Herbie Hancock, Bob Babbitt, Azar Lawrence, Monty Alexander and Will Lee. The album reached No. 15 on the U.S. R&B charts and spawned two charted singles, the title cut which became Phyllis’ first Top 20 R&B hit and a cover of pop rock group Exile’s ‘Kiss You All Over,’ a dance music/club hit.
Originally reissued in 2010 in the U.S. on CD, this new expanded edition includes the two bonus tracks featured on that reissue - a nine-minute version of ‘So Strange’ and 12”mix of ‘Kiss You All Over’ as well as the remaining three tracks left from the Sing A Song LP (‘Sweet Music,’ ‘Love Is Free’ and the title track), thus incorporating Phyllis’ long out-of-print second Buddah album in its’ entirety.
Notes by renowned U.S. writer A. Scott Galloway include quotes from producer T. Life, bassist Will Lee and pianist Monty Alexander.

Friends 2CD
Shalamar’s Friends was one of the biggest and most celebrated classic soul albums of the 1980s. BBR is proud to present the first ever deluxe edition of the album.
Shalamar was formed in 1977 by Dick Griffey, the booking agent for the legendary R&B TV show Soul Train, and British music producer, Simon Soussan. Initially they used faceless session musicians but when their first single, ‘Uptown Medley’ (R&B #10 / Pop #25) found chart success Griffey created a permanent group. After ‘Take That To The Bank’ (US R&B #11 / Pop #79) Shalamar’s classic line-up of Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniel and Howard Hewitt continued to have chart success on both sides of the Atlantic with infectious pop-soul cuts like ‘The Second Time Around’ (US R&B #1 / Pop #8) and ‘Make That Move’ (US R&B #6 / Pop #60) all released on Griffey’s Solar imprint.
In 1982 the group released their seventh studio album FRIENDS, which enhanced on the soul groove sound that had brought the group previous success. The opening track and lead US single from the album ‘A Night To Remember’ (US R&B #8 / Pop #44) became an instant R&B classic. The second single in the US was the album closer ‘I Can Make You Feel Good’ (US R&B #33 / Pop #102), another classic mid-tempo R&B dancer that does exactly as it suggests.
FRIENDS enjoyed massive popularity and unprecedented chart success in the UK, becoming one of the biggest selling alums of the year. FRIENDS peaked at #6 on the UK album chart during an incredible 72-week run. The four singles for the UK market, ‘I Can Make You Feel Good’, ‘A Night To Remember’, ‘There It Is’ and ‘Friends’ reached #7, #5, #5 and #12 respectively on the UK singles chart helping Shalamar retain huge popularity to this day. Jeffrey Daniel introduced body popping and the back slide (later renamed the moon walk by Daniel’s student, Michael Jackson) to UK TV audiences on Top Of The Pops in July of 1982 when promoting ‘A Night to Remember’.
BBR is very proud to bring you FRIENDS, completely re-mastered and repackaged complete with extensive liner notes and extended bonus content including a new interview with Jody Watley and a second disc of alternative versions from the US and UK single releases. FRIENDS is a must have for all R&B, SOUL, 80s POP and DISCO fans out there!
