Stray Dog - Expanded Edition - Stray Dog

Stray Dog - Expanded Edition
Released 26/10/09. The 1973 debut from a band who became cult figures on the blues-rock scene, mainly because there was a real crunch to the music. Greg Lake (of Emerson, Lake and Palmer) signed them to the bands Manticore label, and he produced three of the tracks on this album. This release (along with While You re Down There by Stray Dog) is the first to be issued on the reactivated Manticore label, under an exclusive license to Cherry Red Records and managed by the people who brought you Esoteric Recordings and Atomhenge.

In From The Cold
Led by future Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Weston, Ashkan were together for only a matter of months before imploding.

However, they did leave behind a small but perfectly-formed legacy in the shape of In From The Cold, a blistering, 52-minute slab of turn-of-the-decade British psychedelic / progressive blues rock that, in January 1970, became the first release on Decca's new underground label Decca Nova.

With Weston's frenzied, proto-metal guitar heroics matched all the way by Steve Bailey s powerful, Spooky Tooth-style lead vocals, the album received encouraging reviews, only for the band to split on the eve of its release. Now a major collectable, In From The Cold has been heavily bootlegged over the last couple of decades, but now receives a long-overdue, first-ever official reissue.

All together now
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce a newly remastered edition of the legendary third album by ARGENT, "All Together Now”. The album was issued in July 1972 and built upon the success of the band’s preceding works "ARGENT” and "RING OF HANDS”.

"All Together Now” featured the band’s biggest hit ‘HOLD YOUR HEAD UP’ and saw ROD ARGENT (keyboards, vocals), RUSS BALLARD (guitar, piano, vocals), JIM RODFORD (bass, guitar, vocals) and ROBERT HENRIT (drums, percussion) enjoy global success.

This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been newly remastered from the original master tapes, includes one bonus track and features a booklet that fully restores all original album artwork with a new essay.

Press:-

"The strong turnover of third album All Together Now owed much to the inclusion of Hold Your Head Up, a Top Five hit and future staple of every classic rock station worth its license". Rob Hughes - Classic Rock (Summer 2012)

"The perfect balance between Rod’s prog and Russ’s pop.” Geoff Barton (Prog, June 2012)

Nimbus, The Vertigo Years Anthology 2CD
2 CD ANTHOLOGY BY THE CLASSIC SCOTTISH PROGRESSIVE ROCK GROUP BEGGARS OPERA
18 TRACKS REMASTERED FROM THE ORIGINAL TAPES
DRAWN FROM THE BAND’S FOUR ALBUMS RECORDED FOR THE LEGENDARY VERTIGO LABEL BETWEEN 1970 & 1973
BOOKLET WITH FULLY RESTORED ARTWORK & ESSAY

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce a 2CD ANTHOLOGY by the classic Scottish Progressive Rock group BEGGARS OPERA. Drawing on material from the band’s first four albums, recorded for the legendary Vertigo label, "NIMBUS” features 27 of the band’s best tracks.
Formed in Glasgow in 1969 with a line-up of RICKY GARDINER (Guitar, Vocals), ALAN PARK (Keyboards), MARTIN GRIFFITHS (Vocals), MARSHALL ERSKINE (Bass, Flute) and RAYMOND WILSON (Drums), the band signed to the newly established progressive arm of Philips Records, Vertigo, in 1970. Their debut album, "ACT ONE” gained some success in Europe with tracks such as ‘Poet and Peasant’ and ‘Passacagalia’. A successful European hit single, ‘SARABANDE’, was followed by the album "WATERS OF CHANGE”, arguably their best and most successful album, and a line-up change that saw GORDON SELLAR replace MARSHALL ERSKINE on bass, and VIRGINIA SCOTT join the group on Mellotron. The record included the classic ‘Time Machine’, along with the memorable ‘Silver Peacock’ and ‘I’ve No Idea’.
"PATHFINDER” from 1972 was another classic album and featured a wonderful cover of Jim Webb’s ‘MacArthur Park’ along with ‘The Witch’ and ‘Hobo’. The band’s final album for Vertigo, 1973’s "GET YOUR DOG OFF ME” saw further line-up changes, but included a fine cover of Mason Williams’ ‘CLASSICAL GAS’ and saw further European success for the band.
This anthology is a fine tribute to an inspiring band and has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes, and features a booklet with new essay.

Restrictions / ’Ot ‘N’ Sweaty 2CD
Cactus were formed in 1969 by founder members of Vanilla Fudge; Tim Bogert on bass and Carmine Appice on drums. Although originally planned to feature Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck, Cactus’s line-up was eventually completed by Jim McCarty (from Mitch Ryder's Detroit Wheels and The Buddy Miles Express) on guitar and Rusty Day (from The Amboy Dukes) on vocals and harmonica.
Their bluesy, gritty rock became a big influence on future generations of hard rock and heavy metal bands, including Montrose, AC/DC, Van Halen and Monster Magnet.
Following "Restrictions”, the third and last LP to feature Jim McCarty and Rusty Day, they were joined for "’Ot ‘N’ Sweaty” by Leaf Hound and Atomic Rooster vocalist Pete French, Werner Fritzschings (guitar) and Duane Hitchings (keyboards). The first side of the original LP was recorded live in Puerto Rico at the Mar y Sol pop festival, and the second featuring studio recordings - the album ends with a somewhat incongruous cover of ‘Underneath The Arches’, inspired by touring with Rod Stewart & The Faces.
With remastered audio and one bonus track, this set features liner notes from Classic Rock’s Malcolm Dome based on recent interviews with Carmine Appice. Cactus are currently touring with a line-up featuring McCarty and Appice.
