Time Of The Last Persecution - Bill Fay

Time Of The Last Persecution
As a songwriter, the music written and recorded by Bill Fay has taken many years to reach the audience it deserved, thanks mainly to the American group Wilco covering Fay's 'Be Not So Fearful', a song featured on Fay's first album. Now highly regarded, Fay's second album is now released by Esoteric Recordings. This reissue features liner notes by Bill Fay and is remastered from the original tapes. Cited by Uncut magazine as 'The Missing Link Between Nick Drake, Ray Davies and Bob Dylan', 'Time of the Last Persecution' is an altogether darker work than his debut, with sparse instrumentation provided by a band that featured Ray Russell on guitar, Alan Rushton on drums and Darryl Runswick on bass. If anything the record was a bigger creative triumph than 'Bill Fay'. Bill Fay's work now has the patronage of a younger generation of musicians to bring Fay the critical accolades he deserved. Fay's supremely creative muse has deservedly come full circle. All of his recordings for Decca are now available on Esoteric Recordings.

Bill Fay
As a songwriter, the music written and recorded by Bill Fay has taken many years to reach the audience it deserved, thanks mainly to the American group Wilco covering Fay's 'Be Not So Fearful', a song featured on Fay's first album. Now highly regarded, Fay's debut album is now released by Esoteric Recordings. This reissue also adds Fay's first recorded offerings, the single 'Screams in the Ears' b/w 'Some Good Advice', appeared in 1967, produced by Peter Edenand featuring Southend band The Fingers, as backing band. 'Bill Fay', first released on the Nova label, was a work both sumptuous and delicately melancholic. Featuring string arrangements by jazz musician Mike Gibbs, sessions would also feature guitarist Ray Russell. Cited by Uncut magazine as 'The Missing Link Between Nick Drake, Ray Davies and Bob Dylan', Bill Fay's work now has the patronage of a younger generation of musicians to bring Fay the critical accolades he deserved. All together now
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce a newly remastered edition of the legendary third album by ARGENT, "All Together Now”. The album was issued in July 1972 and built upon the success of the band’s preceding works "ARGENT” and "RING OF HANDS”.

"All Together Now” featured the band’s biggest hit ‘HOLD YOUR HEAD UP’ and saw ROD ARGENT (keyboards, vocals), RUSS BALLARD (guitar, piano, vocals), JIM RODFORD (bass, guitar, vocals) and ROBERT HENRIT (drums, percussion) enjoy global success.

This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been newly remastered from the original master tapes, includes one bonus track and features a booklet that fully restores all original album artwork with a new essay.

Press:-

"The strong turnover of third album All Together Now owed much to the inclusion of Hold Your Head Up, a Top Five hit and future staple of every classic rock station worth its license". Rob Hughes - Classic Rock (Summer 2012)

"The perfect balance between Rod’s prog and Russ’s pop.” Geoff Barton (Prog, June 2012)

Deep Down Heavy
FIRST EVER CD RELEASE OF THE CLASSIC 1970 ALBUM BY BOB DOWNES
REMASTERED FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES
BOOKLET WITH FULLY RESTORED ARTWORK & ESSAY

ESOTERIC RECORDINGS are proud to announce the first official release of the classic 1970 album by BOB DOWNES "Deep Down Heavy”. Celebrated Jazz saxophonist and flautist BOB DOWNES’ album first appeared on EMI’s budget MFP label, arguably the only Progressive Jazz album ever issued by the label. The work was a collaboration with lyricist Robert Cockburn and was an outstanding eccentric example of Jazz Rock with Progressive and even Psychedelic influences. The music and songs featured contributions from the leading lights of British Jazz Rock such as CHRIS SPEDDING, RAY RUSSELL and ALAN RUSHTON, interspersed with poetry by Robert Cockburn (recorded on location on London buses and Underground trains).
The jazz groove of the music was present on tracks such as ‘Walking On’, ‘Don’t Let Tomorrow Get You Down’ and ‘Poplar Cheam’, leading the album to be sampled three decades later by DJs and Mixers.
Remastered from the original master tapes, this Esoteric Recordings reissue is long overdue. The time is right to rediscover the open music of "Deep Down Heavy”, one of THE lost treasures of the Progressive and Psychedelic era.
