The British Space Programme 1962 – 1971 : Projects Cancelled (58 mins)

Since the dawn of time, mankind has looked to the stars and wondered what lies beyond what we can see with the naked eye. Arguably, the most noble of mankind’s endeavours, the ‘space race’, has led to some of the most iconic, famous and awe inspiring images of the twentieth century. Whilst the achievements and exploits of the Soviets and Americans are well documented, the fascinating story of the British Space Programme is much less well known.

Beginning in 1962 with the launch of UK1, this fascinating archive-led documentary celebrates the three major British rocket projects of the 1960s: Black Knight, Blue Streak and Black Arrow. The high point was undoubtedly the successful Black Arrow launch which would succeed in orbiting the Prospero satellite, making the United Kingdom only the sixth nation to successfully place its own satellite into orbit via an indigenously developed carrier rocket. Ultimately, the production and development of British rockets would be abandoned, just as there was a tantalising possibility that Britain might establish itself as a major Aerospace Industrial nation with its own distinctive niche in the International Space Race.

To this day, the United Kingdom holds the somewhat dubious distinction of being the only country to have successfully developed its own satellite launch capability and space project, which was then completely abandoned. The successive cancellation of each and every initiative would come to be seen as a national scandal.

Gimme Some Lovin’ - Live 1966
The first ever DVD to feature the original line-up of the celebrated Spencer Davis Group performing live. Formed in 1963, the Spencer Davis Group's original line-up was, in terms of chart success, it's most successful – scoring four UK top ten hits and two number one's. The band also enjoyed US success, scoring three top ten hits.

The original line-up leaned heavily on the musical and vocal talent of Steve Winwood (then only a teenager), who left the group, along with his brother Muff, in 1967 and went on to enjoy further success as a member of Traffic and as a solo artist.

'Gimme Some Lovin' – Live 1966' features extremely rare archive footage of the original line-up playing live – and includes many of their major hit songs including 'Keep On Runnin'', 'Gimme Some Lovin'' and 'I'm A Man'. Also included is an entertaining and enlightening interview with the band members. The DVD also features a full-length documentary on the group from 1967 – as the Winwood's left the group acquired two new members, began recording new material and were keeping up European tour dates. Featuring the group in the recording studio, on various concert stages, at press calls, in the PR office, this is a unique opportunity for the collector to glimpse the day to day life of a top group in the '60s.

All Or Nothing - Live From London
Released 30/03/09. Steve Marriott is quite simply a rock n roll legend - as leader of the Small Faces and Humble Pie he is responsible for some of the all-time great songs created by any British musician.

Marriott formed the Small Faces with Ronnie Lane in 1964 and they went on to become of the legendary British bands of their era with classic hit songs including "All Or Nothing", "Tin Soldier", "Lazy Sunday" and "Itchycoo Park" and the seminal album "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake".

The band split in 1969 and Marriott went on to form Humble Pie with Peter Frampton - creating one of the 70's first supergroups and enjoying success on both sides of the Atlantic.

Sadly, Marriott died in a house fire in 1991 - but his legacy and loyal fanbase around the world continue on. "Live In London" features a full show Marriott played with his band "Packet Of Three" a London's Camden Palace Theatre in 1985. Marriott revisits many hits from his back catalogue including classic Small Faces songs "What'cha Gonna Do About It", "All Or Nothing" and "Tin Soldier" and Humble Pie singles "30 Days In The Hole" and "I Don't Need No Doctor".

Pillows & Prayers - The DVD
2003 is a landmark year for Cherry Red Records, its twenty-fifth anniversary. As part of the celebrations we are releasing, for the first time ever on DVD, the visual accompaniment to one of the label's most recognised musical titles "Pillows & Prayers".

The original Pillows & Prayers compilation album was released in the early 1980's and went on to top the Indie Chart, spending almost a year in the top 30. To this day it is still one of the most acknowledged releases from the label.

The Pillows & Prayers video was released a few years after the album, and provides the main focus of the DVD. Many of Cherry Red's most popular acts are featured, including Everything But The Girl, Eyeless In Gaza, The Monochrome Set and the Marine Girls.

There are also three bonus tracks, not included on the original video release and featuring original promo material from Medium Medium, Eyeless In Gaza and The Monochrome Set. The bonus material also includes a fascinating interview with the people behind the original Pillows & Prayers concept, Cherry Red Records founder Iain McNay and A&R man Mike Alway, who provide a great insight into the early days of the label.
