British Motor Shows & Motor Racing In The 1970s
The British International Motor Shows were an annual celebration of the very latest car designs, and British Movietone News reported on all of them that were held at Earls Court throughout the ’70s, until the last in 1976.
All those reports are contained in this DVD alongside features on the Commercial Vehicle Shows of ’71, ’72 and ’74, the Racing Car Shows of ’71 and ’73, the Earls Court Motor Fair in ‘77 and the Custom Car Show at Alexandra Palace in ’79.
Over 100 different car types that defined the decade are featured. It was the decade that pre-figured the rapid decline of the British motor industry and the last ditch attempts of an ailing British Leyland to shore up its market share and exports with a range of innovations.
Cars featured include : Triumph Stag, Triumph GT-6, Lotus Europa, Lotus Esprit, Vauxhall Firenza, Jaguar XJ12, Morris Marina Estate, Aston Martin Lagonda, Panther De Ville, Rolls-Royce Camargue, Aston Martin Vantage, Vanden Plas 1500, Lamborghini, Maserati Merak, Jensen-Healy, Ferrari 308 GTB, Triumph TR7, MG V8, MG Midget and the ever iconic Austin Mini, Austin Allegro, Ford Cortina and Ford Capri among many, many more!
Alongside the Motor Show reports, this DVD also includes the high-speed thrills of the British Motor Racing Scene with complete newsreel reports on The British Grand Prix in ’71, ’73, ’74, ’75 and ’76, Brand’s Hatch in ’71 and ’74, The International Rally Of Great Britain in ’72 and the Historic Car Championship at Silverstone in ’73. Famous drivers Niki Lauda, Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Ronny Peterson, James Hunt, Tom Pryce and Guy Edwards are featured among many more!
