Pageantry, pomp and ceremony mark significant events in the life of the British nation such as Coronations, military victories and royal births, deaths, birthdays and weddings.
They often provide the public face of army life; a colourful invocation of historical military traditions that create a magnificent spectacle and which are linked to the very essence of Britishness.
This DVD is a celebration in archive film of the very best and most famous of British military pomp, pageantry and parades. The music, dash and daring of the military tattoos of yesteryear at Aldershot, Bordon Camp and Cardiff, as well as at the much missed Royal Tournament with its stunning set pieces like Beating The Retreat, the Massed Bands, the King's Troop Musical Drive and Naval Gun Run - all of which are featured in historic archive.
The regular ceremonial events of London are explained in detail; the Changing Of The Guard, the Trooping Of The Colour, the Armistice Day Parade and the Honourable Artillery Company firing their gun salute, and the Ceremony Of The Keys at the Tower Of London. The Tower also has some other less well known traditions that hint at its murky past such as the Constables Inauguration and the Beating Of the Boundaries.
Even in the dark days of the Second World War, rare colour footage evidences that the rituals and ceremonies of the Royal Guards were adhered to, albeit in ‘Khakis' as the Guardsmen had taken their place in military action. There is also very rare colour film of the marching columns of the 1945 Victory Parade in London.
Other highlights include the inspection of the mounted Lifeguards, the King's Guard gun salute in Hyde Park, the inspection of the Yeomen Warders and a look at the history and origins of pageantry in Britain.
Over two hours of superb and extremely rare archive material make this a must have collection for all fans of British history…
