Velvet Tinmine - 20 Junkshop Glam Ravers - Various Artists

Velvet Tinmine - 20 Junkshop Glam Ravers
One of the RPM successes in the current decade gets a mascara make over. Since first release this influential album has been picked up by many tastemakers and reached as far as two tracks (Slippery Rock 70 s , Kick Out The Jams) being included in the movie Hot Fuzz. The album has also become the centre piece for the newly recognised pop sub –genre Junkshop Glam .The album has been unavailable for a period but due to popular demand is now set to return to the turntables. We have updated the packaging with new and extra photos, revised sleeve notes, and four different tracks. With stack-heeled beats, handclaps, tub-thumping, and vamped up rock n roll guitars being as popular now as ever, this is a good time to get into Junkshop Glam and the star spandex glories of Velvet Tinmine.

60's blues fusion musician, writer and singer Duffy Power finally achieved a stand alone LP release in 1973 when an eponymous album hit the racks on the GSF label.

Produced by Adrian Millar, as one of several on going projects in a Production deal set up with partner Andrew Loog Oldham, the Duffy Power LP became to date the only purpose recorded album Duffy has had released in his career.

For this fine collection of Duffy originals Millar brought in a stellar cast of musicians, plus backing singers Dana Gillespie, Pam McKenna, Alexis Korner, and Del Newman for string arrangements, to help bring the songs to life.

The album was well received and Millar continued to be a fan of Duffy's songs, offering a second LP. Sessions were begun with a regular backing band called CWT ( see also the RATS (RPM 322) where they backed singer / songwriter David Kubinec). Sadly only three tracks survive today as yet again another Duffy album project remained on the shelf.

As a follow up to the two successful Anthologies of Duffy's 60's recordings RPM is proud to make available again for the first time in 30 years, and for the first time on CD, the 1973 LP Duffy Power, plus the three recordings from the aborted follow up album. The package includes very personal song by song annotation from Duffy, and more unseen photos from Duffy's archive.

Boobs: The Junk Shop Glam Discotheque
Part based on the club listings of the early 70s and part based on the club listings of today, this compilation has the dance floor groovers with a bit of strum, a bit of stomp, and a whole lotta Glam. You’ve probably never heard of any of the artists, but those collecting the Lipsmackin’ series appear to be used to that now. In fact as with one recent review of Volume 5 (Bubble Pop) they get a bit miffed if any of the tracks were a hit! . Some acts do have interesting links, Jimmy Jukebox is that Nut Rocker Kim Fowley, Shout It Out was written and produced by John Springate of the Glitter Band, Little Bit O’Soul was /is a 60’s Northern Soul classic by the Music Explosion given the glam treatment, the Jets keyboard player was also in Cockney Rebel, Good Time Fanny was written and produced by Andy Scott of the Sweet. All meat and drink to the collector. Oh and BOOBS actually was the name of an early 70s discotheque, in south London and Bristol (appropriately) at least, probably elsewhere too.

Breakin’ It Up On The Beatles Tour
Our first in a series of De Shannon releases is a strong collection of originals like ‘When You Walk In The Room’, ‘The Prince’ and ‘You Won’t Forget Me’ along with her original version of ‘Needles & Pins’.The LP was hastily compiled in 1964 to capitalise on De Shannon being chosen to support the Beatles on their US tour that year. The rather ordinary LP front cover with a photo of De Shannon from somewhere else, not from the tour, rather reflects the haste. However the recordings are superb, arranged by Jack Nitzsche, they confirm what a tremendous performer she is, as the original liner notes declared:"Far from being just a decorative contrast on the stage Jackie has proven to be a terrific success. Her twisting, shouting performances have drawn wild applause and cheers from the record crowds at every concert.”In addition we have been able to add 8 bonus non LP tracks from the contemporary singles.

Bonus tracks from contemporary singles have also been added, including Put A Little Love In Your Heart, written by Jackie and covered by many.

RPM is proud to present a second set of Jackie DeShannon album packages, to follow the highly successful initial set of three released last autumn. We now move into the late 60's early 70's, a time when female singer-songwriters were more accepted in the industry. A situation opened up by Jackie DeShannon during her early 60's success as a songwriter. Again each package has been lovingly re-mastered from original Capitol Studios tape masters, plus bonus tracks, and boast more exclusive photos and memorabilia from the Jackie DeShannon personal archive. Making these releases absolute must haves for fans.
