Lovers From The Sky - Pop Psych Sounds From The Apple Era 1967 - 1969 - Various Artists

Lovers From The Sky - Pop Psych Sounds From The Apple Era 1967 - 1969
Volume Four in our successful series exploring the archive of songs and songwriters once signed to Apple Music. Favourites are present again in songs from the pens of George Alexander and Gallagher & Lyle. The majority however are new to the series including some terrific previously unreleased full recording demos from Promise and Contact. Known names crop up too with Timon, Brute Force, the Fourmost, Stefan Grossman. Also the Focal Point make a welcome return after appearing on Volume One of this series. Since when a book on their experiences has been published which in turn is at the shooting stage of becoming a movie! It's the music that keeps us gripped though. Classic slices of late 60 s pop much of it psych tinged with mellotron, swirling strings, heavy organ, fey vocals, fantastic lyrical imagery, English whimsy.

Extemporaneous & Outtakes
The wonderful Brute Force, one of the world's major eccentrics: stuntman, actor, record breaker, stand-up improv master, and hit songwriter for the Chiffons, the Cyrkle, Del Shannon, the Creation, and the Tokens. Brute Force even released a rare and controversial single, "The King of Fuh," on the Beatles' Apple label - the rarest on the label as it happens! Here is a slice of full-on Brute, a 1969 performance of improv and songs (sometimes both!)....some songs which should have been hits but for that... twist, and then both sides of his Apple single "The King Of Fuh/No One Knows What's Going On In My Mind But Me" (The latter song was actually a hit for the Shirelles, and is today a Northern Soul staple!). A must for all fans of the eccentric, bizarre, 1960's classic pop and all Beatles completists too! Can't say better than that! Our Price: £9.95

As They Are
Released on 28/09/09. For too long we have been treasuring this album and now we share it with you... In a more innocent time, when peace and love was still a viable option, on a street in New York City by a fire hydrant, sit two teenagers, all thrift-store chic and childishly knowing. Eating sandwiches, sipping Coke, looking shyly, quizically, yet hopefully at the camera... a perfect faded snapshot of the way things were... Effortlessly cool and breezy, sophisticated yet naive, this is the perfect missing link between acid-folk and New York Tin Pan Alley pop with a wistful bossa flavour redolent of A&M Records albums of the period. As the Manchester poet Robert Cochrane says in his appreciation of this album, "people are still trying to achieve the balance of calculated innocence that these two managed in their teens. Belle and Sebastian have made an entire career from such obsessions, creating much beauty in their wake. What followed for Tee and Cara is presently unknown, but in the summer of 1968 a boy and a girl in New York got something right." Tee And Cara are alive and well and still producing beautiful things. The Bitter Thoughts Of Tymon Dogg: A Collection 1968-2009
The Tymon Dogg story is really a tale of two Tymons. As Timon, he was a psychedelic pop troubadour who cut several beguiling singles in the late 60s, before disappearing forever from the pop scene that had shaped the style and sound of his early recordings. When he re-emerged several years later as Tymon Dogg he defiantly mixed folk, pop and world music influences into a distinctive and wholly uncompromising style that he pursues to this day. Initially groomed for pop stardom by the likes of the Beatles and Moody Blues, Tymon went on to record with the Clash in the 80s and was later a key member of Joe Strummer’s Mescaleros. All the while he has also continued to pursue his idiosyncratic solo career. He is still making vital music perhaps some of his best to date - and playing shows with artists as diverse as Mick Jones¹ Carbon Silicon and ex-Libertine Pete Doherty. Lose This Skin: Tymon Dogg Selected tracks the fascinating journey of Tymon Dogg, from his 1967 Pye single Bitter Thoughts of Little Jane, to his very latest recordings, including a 2009 remake of his Travelling Man which was first issued in 1970 as the b-side to the single he cut for the Moody Blues Threshold label.
