Summer Sound Sensations: Definitive Collection - First Class

Summer Sound Sensations: Definitive Collection
Released on 05/07/10. First Class were the brain child of John Carter (Ivy League/Flowerpot Men), and scored a massive international hit in 1974 with the single Beach Baby

Bob Stanley writes: “Beach Baby was possibly the fullest flowering of the John Carter Sound - constantly shape shifting, the harmonies, the strings, and more hooks than any four minute pop single should have by rights. John Peel raved about it in Sounds and it was no.4 in the US in the summer of 74. In Britain it stalled at 11 but felt much bigger- it’s been a radio staple since”

This studio group, including luminaries such as Tony Burrows, Chas Mills, Spencer James (from the Searchers), and Clare Torry (of Pink Floyd fame), released two LP’s and recorded tracks for a third that remained unreleased. All continued in the vein described above of hook laden /harmony driven /string backed perfectly produced pop. All recorded 1974 - 1977, plus a bonus track from 1985 when Carter recorded a throw back single for possible release in Holland when Beach Baby became a reissued hit, that totally captures the Beach Baby excitement and gives it the hi-production wall of sound.

New Dimensions
Field gte not in Database

The Three Degrees were hugely successful internationally throughout the seventies, particularly in the UK where they enjoyed ten top forty hits including Year Of Decision, Take Good Care Of Yourself and the anthemic ballad When Will I See You Again, all on Philadelphia International Records. New Dimensions was the trio's first album for Ariola Records where they were teamed with hotter than hot producer Giorgio Moroder, who was riding high on his work with Donna Summer.

The top forty album spent thirteen weeks on the UK album chart in 1979 and spun off three hugely successful megahits in the shape of the discofied Giving Up, Giving In and The Runner as well as the top three ballad Woman In Love.

This newly re-mastered edition features extensive liner notes and seven bonus tracks. Also available: BBR's best-selling reissue of The Three Degrees' Philadelphia International debut.

Three D
Little can be said about The Sound Of Philadelphia or Philadelphia International Records without mentioning The Three Degrees. This trio may have had more than 12 different women represent the group so far, but they remain one of the most memorable female vocal acts of the last 40+ years.

In 1979, The Three Degrees released their second album for Ariola Records, 3D, produced by Grammy Award winner Giorgio Moroder fresh from winning an Academy Award for his full movie score on Midnight Express and fellow Grammy Award and Academy Award winner Harold Faltermeyer. The album featured such hits as the fantastic driving beat of the US Dance hits JUMP THE GUN and SET ME FREE and a UK Top Ten hit, the hugely popular sweet and soulful, MY SIMPLE HEART. Other notable singles include the gorgeous funky Earth, Wind & Fire inspired ballad STARLIGHT and WITHOUT YOU.

BBR is proud to present this newly re-mastered and beautifully re-packaged expanded edition of THREE D, complete with extensive liner notes featuring interviews with group members and Ariola Records President Robin Blanchflower along with added bonus tracks. Released in deluxe Super Jewel cases, this BBR Re-Master is a must have for all Soul, Disco and Girl-Group Pop fans.

The Three Degrees-Expanded Edition
The Three Degrees' Philadelphia International Records debut made quite an impact upon it's release in 1974.

Having been R&B hit makers for years, the group were no strangers to the American Soul Chart but the pairing of the group with Philadelphia's Gamble & Huff took them to an iconic level of appreciation. The top 20 album spawned the now classic UK #1 When Will I See You Again and the top 20 hit Year Of Decision. Also featured was their Philly debut single Dirty Ol' Man which topped the charts in the Netherlands, staving off the threat of Demis Roussos in the process!

DonÆt Let It Die - Very Best Of
Released 27/11/08. Norman Smith Hurricane Smith or Normal to John Lennon. Producer and Engineer to both the Beatles and Pink Floyd. A legend in the industry and a performer of a number of hits in his own right. Don’t Let it Die was a massive hit and won him an Ivor Novello award, this after The Beatles may or may not have turned it down because it was a little too complicated for Ringo to sing. His style was varied, from the vaudeville of his youth to more contemporary influences of the late 60’s and early 70’s. This compilation brings together his first two albums Don’t Let it Die and Hurricane Smith and includes the singles Don t Let it Die , Oh Babe What Would You Say?, Who Was It? and My Mother Was Her Name . The Shacklefords Sing
Released 24/11/08. This phenomenon probably should be filed under forgotten enigmas of the '60s. The crudely rendered Lichtensteinesque comic strip on the album cover tries to help out by explaining that The Shacklefords consist of three men and a girl, they like to be perceived as a sound rather than a group, and they don't want to be confused with Norwegian fjords. Right. OK. The Shacklefords are kind of like The Art of Noise avant la lettre; there's a mystifying aura regarding the lineup of the band, and exactly what it's all about. Perhaps The Shacklefords would have remained forgotten if it hadn't been for the renewed appreciation of their producer, the amazing Lee Hazlewood. Helmed by Hazlewood's associate, the prolific Marty Cooper (an American pop missing link involved with everyone from Jennifer Warnes to Them!), The Shacklefords sounds is a missing link in American vocal groups. These "adventures in song with Capitol's super singing group," thankfully offer more than just another rarity for Hazlewood addicts. The marvelous Shacklefords sound is a treat for collectors of the unknown and the under-appreciated. A treat for fans of 1960's vocal groups, and a key piece in the legend and enigma of Lee Hazlewood. Our Price: £9.95
