Keith Mansfield All You Need Is |
| retro835 | |
Famed arranger, music director, producer Keith Mansfield has arranged top tunes for the likes of Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, Georgie Fame, Gilbert O'Sullivan and Robert Plant. He has also been a star of UK TV for 40 years. Wimbledon tennis, Grandstand, Athletics, The Big Match, The Sweeney all enhanced by Mansfield s impact on their soundtrack. The Big Match theme was recorded as The Young Scene for KPM in 1968, the same year as Mansfield also turned in the seminal arrangement for the Love Affair s break-through hit Everlasting Love. Also released then was his own solo record Soul Confusion, an organ led groove with a storming fuzz guitar break in the middle. So too the All You Need Is LP for CBS , where Mansfield was a staff producer for a time. This LP, here in its entirety, forms the backbone of our release to highlight the Mansfield sound, following on from our previous excursions in to the sounds of Brian Bennett and Alan Hawkshaw. In fact keyboard maestro Alan Hawkshaw is the provider of the extra-funky piano and Hammond organ work on All You Need Is. The other regular contributors are backing vocals from Sue & Sunny. In addition we have top picks from other CBS LPs Mansfield worked on. The recordings span 1968-1972. Solomon Burke This is it - Apollos |
| shout46 | |
First recordings by the soul legend that set the style for the emergence of soul music! Not available for over 20 years, first time on CD Solomon Burke, a legend of the classic soul era with some 20 chart hits on Atlantic between 1961 and 1968 and his landmark Proud Mary LP (available now on Rev-Ola CRREV 187) cut in Muscle Shoals for Bell in 1969, began his musical life in the world of gospel as a boy preacher in his home city of Philadelphia, featuring in his own Solomon s Temple radio show. He was signed to Bess Berman s Apollo Records in New York s Harlem as a teenager in 1955, and recorded sessions in New York from 1955 to 1957, from which his singles released on the label comprise the contents of this album. Given his church roots, some tracks have an inspirational theme, but far from being a gospel album, the music is more notable in displaying the birth of soul music, with Solomon s vocal delivery close to the style of his future Atlantic hits. Droids Star Peace |
| REPEAT5 | |
The Droids beamed down to planet Earth in the year 1978. The brainchild of Yves Hayet, they made the French space synth classic (Do You Have) The Force, which was heavily influenced by the recent release of the Star Wars film and appeared on TV in robot guise to promote it.Maybe Daft Punk were watching? The song has appeared on the acclaimed 'So Young But So Cold: Underground French Music' compilation and this is the first release of the parent album, Star Peace, outside of France (Barclay, 1978). It features the single and other space themed Electronica which were very much in the then current style of instrumental sci-fi synth that was sweeping France, such as Jean Michel Jarre s Oxygene and Space s Magic Fly.
