There is a book in the market place by renowned Mod expert Terry Rawlings called Empire Made: The Handy Parka Pocket Guide to All Things Mod. A guide through the key icon elements of Modernism plus samples of the defining sounds from the movement. Our compilation is the tie in companion CD to the book, presenting 22 selections of the recordings recommended by the book, including tracks from their all time Top 100 chart. Housed in a specially designed cover by In Crowd stylist Phil Smee, Empire Made the album continues the image style adopted by the book jacket through inclusion of visual memorabilia that really set the scene.

Musically our second volume expands on volume one through mixing the sound sources, including US and UK R&B tracks, still taking care to avoid any duplication with other similarly titled compilations. Focus however is still upon the UK mod club scene primarily of the mid 60's, but as with the book a few selections are from current mod club play lists of 60's music.

We take as our text the hard working bands of England in the mid 60's R&B boom. Centring on the band actually called The In Crowd RPM then piece together the other groups and artists that attracted the Mod crowds of the time, collectively making up their own 'in crowd '. As it happens there are two other compilations recently launched on the marketplace also going by the same name The In Crowd. RPMs album is very much a compliment album to both Universals 4 CD set and the Sanctuary Music 2 CD set, to the extent that there are no duplicated tracks on the RPM set with either of the others. It takes one point of the Universal set, the white Uk mod acts of the mid 60's and expands on that theme. Thus the RPM set stands up on its own as a highly valued collection of quality '60's UK mod R&B.

Finally as a bonus we have a priceless three minute video clip included on an Enhanced CD track which contains footage of the Mod band Four +1 'in situ ' in 1964. Todays listener can be transported back to those days as the band stroll down the Kings Road, past a line of parked Vespas to check on the latest fashion stores. Then relive the sweaty clubs as they see the band on stage. Its great music, its got the right bands such as The Action, The Artwoods, The Yardbirds, Manish Boys (yes, Bowie), its got the right sleeve (Phil Smee who also packaged the Universal set) and packaging, its got film footage, it’s the right price - its got the lot !
