Raspberries
Starting Over rpm515Recorded and released in 1974. The group changed line up, two left , two came in, including Nebraskan Scott McCarl and former Cyrus Eyrie (the pre cursor Raspberries band) member Michael McBride. ‘Starting Over’ contains an all time classic 45 single, the epic aural movie Overnight Sensation, which still racks up radio plays today. Of the album Rolling Stone wrote: “The Raspberries have at last realised their potential. They’ve become the premier synthesizers of sixties pop influences extant. Even more importantly, the end results of their adroit collages of musical knowledge often equal or surpass their models’ original creations”. It is the sort of state bands today like the Coral and the Stands are trying to reach. McCarl more recently had a track from his 1996 album ‘Play On’ included on a Mojo cover mount CD. His version of the Beatles ‘Yes It Is’ graced this summer 04’s Mojo Beatles Red and Blue issue. McCarl’s Lennonisms were a perfect match for the Raspberries, and his later version of the Raspberries Nobody Knows (from the Fresh LP) was included on the debut RPM vinyl 7” single, also reviewed in Mojo

Side 3 rpm514Recorded and released in 1973 ‘Side 3’ was the Raspberries most assured and explosive album, as a band, where they achieved in the studio the sound they delivered on stage. A highlight is the first track, also released as a single, Tonight, packing a visceral punch enhanced by Bryson’s magnificent guitar work, Carmen’s raw Steve Marriott styled singing, and Bonfanti’s wild approximation of Keith Moon. Having said that this is the album where the Raspberries found more of their own voice rather than just following their 60’s idols. At the time tours of England, France, Germany confirmed this as new audiences were won over. Tonight / Last Dance / Making It Easy / On The Beach / Hard To Get Over A Heartbreak (Carmen) / I’m A Rocker / Should I Wait / Ecstasy / Money Down

Fresh rpm513Raspberries were the quintessential 70’s Power Pop group. Their music, from the pen of founder member Eric Carmen, blended Beatlesque pop with the fiery power of The Who and Small Faces. They believed in the power, the spirit of a supremely crafted three-minute pop song packing the excitement of their musical idols. Much has been written about the group down the years, and about Carmen whose subsequent solo career has spawned a few international hit songs of his own such as All By Myself, with many later bands imitating and citing the Raspberries as a major influence. Old fans remain, but many new ones have come along since for whom only compilations have been served up. All comps have sold extremely well but now comes a chance for the new generations to buy into the original albums, packaged here in digi-paks using the original front cover artwork. We start at the beginning with the first two albums both originally released in 1972, and both spawning hit singles. Go All The Way was a no.4 hit off the first album and I Wanna Be With You was a no. 16 off the second LP. The third and fourth LPs will follow next spring. You can guarantee that music fans will want all four.
I Wanna Be With You / Goin' Nowhere Tonight / Let's Pretend / Every Way I Can / I Reach For The Light / Nobody Knows / It Seemed So Easy / Might As Well / If You Change Your Mind / Drivin' Around

Raspberries / Fresh Raspberries rpm162The Raspberries were a hugely successful group of the early 70's despite flying in the face of contemporary trends . By the time the band burst on the scene with their first record in 1971 their brand of Beatlesque rock was an anomaly . This was a time of extended solos, keyboard doodling and prog lyrics, but the Raspberries believed in a higher power, the spirit of a supremely crafted three minute pop song packing in all the excitement of their musical idols - the Beatle, Beach Boys, The Who, Small Faces. Go All The Way / Come Around And See Me / I Saw The Light / Rock & Roll Mama / Waiting / Don't Want To Say Goodbye / With You In My Life / Get It Moving / I Can Remember / I Wanna Be With You / Goin' Nowhere Tonight / Let's Pretend / Every Way I Can / I Reach For The Light / Nobody Knows / It Seemed So Easy / Might As Well / If You Change Your Mind / Drivin' Around
