Paul Jones : Come Into My Music Box
Come Into My Music Box
rpm183

Paul Jones left Manfred Mann as they were high in the charts with their second No. 1 hit single, Pretty Flamingo, determined to pursue a solo career not only in music but also on the stage and in films. His acting successes and his later TV and Radio work has tended to overshadow the music Jones recorded during the latter half of the 60’s and early 70’s - recordings which show just how talented and versatile a vocalist (and songwriter) Jones is - from r'n'b to Pop, Rock’n’Roll to Soul and Blues.

The Paul Jones Collection aims to bring together all the studio recordings made by Jones during the era. Each major album will be accompanied by the hits, EPs, singles and unreleased recordings. Paul's candid comments on the sessions are part of a comprehensive sleevenote, illustrated with pictures and memorabilia.

Paul Jones : Love Me, Love My Friends
Love Me, Love My Friends
rpm169

Our second CD centres round the 1967 album "Love Me Love My Friends". Jones chose songs which all featured people's names in the title, and musically it was a richly varied selection from the folk rock of Dylan's "Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll", through the rock & roll of "Boney Moronie" and "Charlie Brown" to the country blues of "Nosher Burns" (this was a cover of Leadbelly's "Booger Burns", but when EMI heard Jones' version entitled "Bugger Burns" they made him cut a new vocal using the word Nosher instead! We've included the original and censored vocal takes here).

Jones also managed to include a couple of his own songs for the first time, something producer John Burgess had not allowed on the first album. The bonus cuts include singles tracks and six unissued recordings from 1967, all cut for EMI. Keep an eye on the new release pages for details of the follow-up releases.

Love Me Love My Friends / Poor Jenny / Trendy Miss Wendy / Nosher Burns / Song About Mary / Along Came Jones / Bony Moronie / Little Sadie / Charlie Brown / The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll / Tarzan etc/ / Please Help Me Denise / Bugger Burns / Sold To The Highest Bidder / Sons & Lovers / Three Sisters / After All Is Said & Done / The Love Bug Will Get You / Take Care / Listen Girl / Hold On To Someone Baby

Paul Jones : My Way
My Way
rpm168

Paul Jones - wasn't he in...? Well yes he was, but then Paul Jones is also familiar through his acting in films, musicals and the theatre, regular broadcasts on the TV and Radio (Paul currently hosts a weekly r'n'b show for both Jazz FM and Radio 2, the latter having just celebrated its own tenth anniversary), plus his continuing pop work.

With a career spanning some 30 years, Paul's popularity has never waned. Interest in Manfred Mann has been renewed by a reunion of the band's classic line-up, itself sparked by a TV advertised "Best Of". Jones also fronts The Blues Band, who continue to tour and record on a regular basis as they have since their formation in 1979. Most areas of Paul's musical work are well covered on CD, except for one major gap - that of Paul Jones' solo career. Between 1966 and 1971 Jones cut a series of excellent solo albums - "My Way", "Love Me Love My Friends", "Come Into My Musical Box" and "Crucifix In A Horseshoe" - and singles. RPM felt it was "High Time" this missing area of Paul's career was made available again.

This CD includes the 1966 solo album "MY WAY", which featured Paul's first big hit "High Time". The album found Paul taking some of the Manfred's jazz tinged r'n'b/soul feel and moving into a poppier vein, with the hit single giving the good-looking Jones immediate Pin Up status. The bonus CD cuts are three non albums single sides, two previously unissued tracks, and all four tracks from the chart EP "Privilege", which include the hit "I've Been A Bad Bad Boy" and the rare "(My Heart Is Surely) Breaking", not available elsewhere.

Lady Godiva / It Is Coming Closer / I Can't Hold On Much Longer / Baby Tomorrow / You've Got Too Much Going For You Girl / Very Very Funny / High Time / She Needs Company / When My Little Girl Is Smiling / Wait 'Til Morning Comes / I Can't Break The News To Myself / Sonny Boy Williamson / Would You Believe / Ouch! / Thinking Ain't For Me / Softly / Privilege / Free My / (My Heart Is Surely) Breaking / I've Been A Bad Bad Boy
