File between Sparks and Roxy Music. Our first spin off from the Glitterbest compilation is a classic of that immediate pre punk era where New York art rockers sneered their way through 3 minute pop songs.

The band were at the time, 1975/6, often found to be playing at Max's Kansas City usually supporting either the Ramones or Talking Heads. Both groups were signed to Sire and the Milk n Cookies were set to follow. However previously they had recorded an album with Muff Winwood at Island, having been taken there by manager John Hewlett, who also looked after Sparks. Island released a single then sat on the album, in 1974, and the band returned to New York to join the emerging scene there, when in 1976 Island suddenly decided to release after all. Timing all wrong, and with no real backing from the label, the LP died and so did the bands prospective deal with Sire, thus the band collapsed. Bassist Sal Maida joined Sparks, having previously played with Roxy Music, guitarist and principle songwriter Ian North went solo. As for the singer Justin Strauss.…oh he married Hollywood actress Kathleen Turner!

So resurrected now following growing interest in this Sparks related combo, we have added the single to the LP, plus the album out takes and Sire/Warner Bros demos. Put together in cooperation with the band the package comes with an essay by noted New York Dolls biographer Nina Antonia, and photos from the bands own archive.
