Margo Guryan
Margo Guryan : Thoughts
Thoughts
rpm507

One of the releases of 2000 was a reissue of Margo Guryan’s 1968 album Take A Picture. The official release was in response to mounting interest in this hitherto mysterious singer and a bootleg of the album selling several thousand copies in Japan. Now we are able to present the follow up album THOUGHTS, a unique collection of the demos Margo made for her publisher Dartmoor Music, mostly in the late 60's but also a couple from the 70's and most intriguingly her earliest song written in 1966 but recorded in 2000. This final song and recording is the one that makes the perfect point - Margo’s songs and sounds are timeless, all of these sound as contemporary today as they did in 1968.

The demos are in fact finished recordings in themselves. For the Take A Picture album the relevant songs were re-recorded. On THOUGHTS, as an exclusive bonus, we have two songs composed by other writers, recorded by Margo, further proving her talent as a performer, plus here as an interpreter of songs.

How to describe Margo’s sound: "Ms Guryan is possessing of a uniquely seductive way of singing, a style that will certainly turn on every listener, without frightening off the meeker among you. A benevolent sexuality if you will. The beautiful songs within will satisfy the appetites of the hardiest soft pop fans, and will open a world I guarantee you will not want to leave. "

These personal songs have their lyrics reprinted in full on the inlay, and the package boasting a photo of Margo in the Columbia studio from 1968 on the front is presented in a digipack .

Even though she cuts a slightly mysterious figure today Margo did have a number of covers of her songs by artists like Spanky & Our Gang (a hit with Sunday Morning - the first version included here),Oliver, Julie London, Bobbie Gentry, Glen Campbell, Jackie De Shannon, Astrud Gilberto, Mama Cass.
