Joe Tex : First On The Dial
First On The Dial
shout47

Joe Tex became a major name in soul music when his philosophical ballad Hold What You’ve Got took him into the US top 10 in early 1965; the first of some 30 hit singles and a dozen best-selling LPs during the next 15 years of his recording career on the Dial label up to the time of his death from a heart-attack in 1982. Joe recorded 10 singles for Dial under a different distribution deal prior to his breakthrough, a collectable mixture beat and ballads laced with his wry sense of humour and some fine songs typical of the Southern Soul style.

These tracks are gathered here on CD for the first time, including Bloods Thicker Than Water, an in-demand item among Northern Soul fans, and his original version of Southern Soul classic Meet Me In Church. Shout Records also include in this CD a selection of hard-to find bonus tracks, which have been overlooked on other compilations, providing extra value for collectors.

Mojo Magazine awarded a very respectable 3 stars to this CD.

Joe Tex : Happy Soul/ Buying A Book: The Dial Records Series Vol 4
Happy Soul/ Buying A Book: The Dial Records Series Vol 4
rpmsh238

RPM picks up on a successful series begun by the Connoisseur Collection and strikes home with the next two volumes, planned but never released.

The late Joe Tex was amongst the most popular Southern Soul artists of the mid-lae 60s. Equally at home with up-tempo songs and even disco, Joe's major successes came with a series of 'preaching' deep soul singles that espoused the down home values of life in America's Deep South. This series reissues all the Tex LP's on CD for the first time and will contain all his US and international hits, plus bonus tracks, recorded for Dial records until his death in 1982.

Vol. 4 moves into 1969 with two more album also sold through Atlantic, Happy Soul and Buying A Book. Both albums were entirely written by Tex and whilst the performances are exemplary Tex soul they do offer a different perspective.

Both packages come with extensive liner notes from Clive Richardson and fold out poster inlays with rare photos.

'Happy Soul'
Baby Be Good / Chicken Crazy / Go Home And Do It / Keep The One You Got / Sweet Sweet Woman / Take The Fifth Amendment / That's Your Baby / You Can Tell / You Need Me Baby / You've Come A Long Way

'Buying A Book '
Anything You Wanna Know / Buying A Book / Get Your Lies Together / Grandma Mary / It Ain't Sanitary / Sure Is Good / That's The Way / The Only Way / Same Things You Did To Get It / We Can't Sit Down Now
