Julie Felix : First, Second & Third (Complete Decca LPs 1964-1966)
First, Second & Third (Complete Decca LPs 1964-1966)
retrod841

First ever reissue of Decca UK’S first folk signing in 1964 . Fresh from touring Europe Julie had been spotted by Leonard Cohen in Ibiza and then relocated to London. Following growing success as a troubadour on the UK circuit from folk clubs up to the Fairfield Halls, and later the Albert Hall, Julie was offered a contract with Decca.

The songs on the three LPs recorded with Decca are essentially Julie’s repertoire from the sets she had performed on constant live tours since 1961. She left Santa Barbara, California with her Mexican guitar singing songs learned in Mexico and California, and songs picked up along the way.

Julie injected a modern consciousness into the traditional scene, totally at one with the times.

Les Reed : Original Soundtracks : The Girl On A Motorcycle / Les Bicyclettes De Belsize
Original Soundtracks : The Girl On A Motorcycle / Les Bicyclettes De Belsize
retro840

.At the top of his game in 1968/1969, Reed had written very many pop hits and was extending into movie scores ( later progressing further into stage musicals ).

The music in Girl On A Motorcycle, the 1968 film with Marianne Faithfull and Alain Delon, is an intriguing period mix of Hammond organ grooves, quasi -classical interludes, psychedelic passages and avant garde incidentals.

Some structures and production sounds can be traced through to the following year’s Les Bicyclettes De Belsize starring Judy Huxtable and Anthony May, although the music is more pastoral pop ballad. The latter film is also more laid back charming as
opposed to the formers tense and edgy atmosphere, and naturally these qualities are reflected in both soundtracks.

The Flirtations : Sounds Like The Flirtations
Sounds Like The Flirtations
retro839

Originally formed in 1962 in Alabama, a three-vocalist line up (Ernestine Pearce, Shirley Pearce, Vie Billups) of R&B group The Flirtations relocated to the UK in 1968 where they picked up with producer Wayne Bickerton and writer Tony Waddington, and a deal with Decca. They recorded one LP (Sounds Like...) in 1969 plus six singles released through the Deram imprint (1968-1971).

All are included here, plus input from Vie Billups aka Pearly Gates who has latterly reformed the troupe for live shows. Pearly will be helping to promote the release with on going radio interviews and appearances.

Contains the original source for a recent KFC ad, namely their signature tune Nothing But A Heartache, a massive Northern Soul track: described as a dense, dynamic, earth-shattering melodrama. The other singles and tracks are no less in their impassioned soulful delivery, with Someone Out There continuing to get exposure on Euro radio and TV.
This is the first time the LP has been reissued, and legitimately released on CD.
