There's not really a lot that can be said here that hasn't already been said. Elvis, the alpha and omega of Rock'n'Roll. At number 1 at the very start and at number 1 even today!

As part of our ongoing series of early and pre-rock artists of the 1940's and 1950's, join us at the very start of the brilliant career of the 20th century's GREATEST entertainer; it's greatest Country, Pop and R&B vocalist, it's greatest icon, it's greatest record collector, it's greatest music fan, it's greatest live perfomer, it's greatest dancer!!!!

Here Rev-Ola presents all of Elvis' early recordings, includes alternate and discarded cuts. This is Elvis, DAY ONE, as he tentatively enters the legendary Sun studios in Memphis, and cuts songs ranging from his mother's favourites to gems from his own mighty record collection, as well as originals. This is the sound of Rockabilly being created as you listen - with Elvis, Scotty and Bill wide-eyed with the sense of discovery.

From his first steps into the studio to the verge of being the greatest Rock'n'Roll icon in the world, containing all the ORIGINAL 1954 country and R&B chart hits, these songs document the ascendance of Elvis the Hillbilly Cat from Memphis, to the king of Rock 'N' Roll all over the world - becoming simply...THE KING!!!!!!

What can one say? Elvis... the alpha and omega of Rock'n'Roll. At number 1 at the very start and at number 1 as we speak! Join us at the very start of the brilliant career of the 20th century's GREATEST entertainer - it's greatest country, pop and R&B vocalist. It's greatest icon, it's greatest record collector, it's greatest music fan, it's greatest live performer, it's greatest dancer... woah yeah!!!!

This is the sound of Rockabilly being created as we listen - with Elvis, Scotty and Bill wide-eyed with the sense of discovery...from his first steps into the studio to the verge of being the greatest Rock'n'Roll icon in the world...these songs document the process of the Hillbilly Cat from Memphis, the king of western bop, becoming simply... THE KING!!!!!!

How Do You Think I Feel?

Oh yes indeed it's ELVIS once more, and why not!? Here we have Elvis candidly in the studio, performing many rarities and also LIVE on air. You think Radio sessions are a post punk/Indie thing?? Well NO SIREE! Like everything else in Rock'n'Roll, these were pioneered by Elvis himself as he prowled the South, becoming bigger and bigger in that phenomenal year of 1955 - growing from a rumour, to a local hit phenomenon, to taking over the world!!!!!

Early takes/alternative versions of many of his breakthrough Country/R&B Chart hits join audio verity moments in the creation of a legend and snapshots of his LIVE repertoire which drove the CATS and CHICKS WILD!!!!!

With versions of his favourite country and R&B songs, many of which were slated for SUN Records sessions which were superceded by his rise to superstardom (and thus never got recorded) performed to rabid fans in a full on style unheard by most people outside MEMPHIS 1955.

So many releases are called something like "The Birth Of A Legend", this is literally the birth of THE Legend! Ladies and Gentlemen, ELVIS enters the building.

It had to happen! It came bursting out of Memphis like the sleaziest Jazz, like Booker T. And The MGs, like Big Star. Every time, Memphis catches us on the hop, and this CD celebrates the time when Memphis outdid itself!

From Sun Records, a label which had already brought us both tough country hits, and the mysterious world of Howlin' Wolf, came ELVIS, the alpha and omega of Rock' n 'Roll. He burst seemingly fully formed from the head of some integrated rockabilly Jove who possibly lived on in a dimension between Rufus Thomas' and Dewey Phillips' radio shows - and here we have it all, the complete Sun recordings of Elvis - the sides that shook the world with an added exclusive bonus of what would have been his next Sun single had he not signed to RCA, a frenzied performance from a radio session back in the day. History as it was made!

Always cause for speculation and sometimes unfounded rumour, Elvis Presley's early months with Sun Records and the brief, hazy period he spent performing on radio shows in Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas, have generated a substantial list of songs that he either never recorded commercially or have since been lost. In order to give the Elvis fan an idea of these mythical songs, this compilation endevours to collate the original versions of these songs which inspired Elvis to try them out for Sam Phillips or to perform them for a radio or live audience in those long-lost days of the mid 1950s.

Featuring Elvis' favourite Country artists from mighty Hank Snow and Eddy Arnold to lowly Fairley Holden and Billy Hughes along with a smattering of jump and R&B tracks, this compilation is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking; file it alongside Rev-Ola (CRREV99) for the whole picture on the formation of the world's brightest star.
