Visualise - Thomas & Richard Frost

Visualise
*A lost classic of the collectable "Soft-Pop" genre
*Not only first time on CD, but first time anywhere!
*Includes the complete "Visualize", outtakes, and the singles leading to the album in the original Mono mixes.....
*Liner notes by renowned West Coast music expert Alec Palao, with input from Tom and Rich themselves.....
*Pictures and memorabilia supplied by the artist to expand the planned original sleeve

Of all the known or rumoured "lost" albums from the odd pop era when everyone wanted a go at a Superpop classic a la Brian Wilson, (and more succeeded than one might think) this is perhaps the most thoroughly lost....as the only essay in this style by the artist, it was a case of never before and never again!..... Richard and Tom Martin were mainstays of The Art Collection aka Powder, America's closest shot at the Pop-Art sound of The Who or The Creation.....after a number of classic (and now ruinously expensive!) singles failed to set the charts alight, a change of direction was clearly called for…

Calling themselves Thomas and Richard Frost, the brothers signed to Imperial Records and made a number of classic pop singles, some of which indeed hit the lower reaches of the charts....all in preparation for their masterwork, "Visualize".....unfortunately, reorganisation at Imperial after their acquisition by Liberty Records meant the album was cancelled....at such a late stage that production masters complete with catalogue number and half-completed artwork have languished in the vaults until now.....Tom and Rich's next project was an accomplished country-rock album for UNI Records.....the breathtaking pop experiment of "Visualize" remaining a closed chapter.....until now..

The Gordian Knot
UNFORTUNATELY THIS TITLE IS CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK. Cherry Red Records apologises for the unavailability of this album, however if you would like to be notified when it is on sale again then please email matti@cherryred.co.uk. Thanks.

Originally from Mississippi, the Gordian Knot emerged in Los Angeles in 1967. They recorded this fascinating hybrid of Association-esque soft pop/soft psych/country rock with LA's finest studio musicians and the Hi-Lo's own Clark Burroughs in the producers chair. The result is the finest harmony pop psych offering in the entire Verve catalog. Fronted by Jim Weatherly, who just a few years later would pen Gladys Knight’s finest moment, "Midnight Train To Georgia," the Gordian Knot entertained countless in-crowd LA parties frequented by Hollywood’s elite, and performed as part of a USO tour throughout Vietnam with friend and fan Nancy Sinatra. The usual pristine Revola mastering making it better than ever! Deluxe and beautiful expanded booklet includes exclusive rare and unpublished photos from the band and producer. First time on CD anywhere in the world with comprehensive and extensive liner notes with exclusive commentary and interviews with original band members including Grammy-nominated Jim Weatherly and Clark Burroughs. A must for all fans of Softpop, Pop Psych and just plain good music everywhere!

The Dreams of Michaelangelo
With beginnings going back to the 1950’s, this Liverpool group evolved through the Merseybeat era into being known as The Kirkbys. Mainstay was vocalist/guitarist Jimmy Campbell who also wrote most of the material. One song “She’ll Get No Lovin’ That Way” was covered by notable scenesters at the time, ‘The Escorts’, on their fourth single, whilst The Kirkbys only had one single released “It’s a Crime”, included here. Following a spell backing the Merseys, Jimmy Campbell and group moved into the psych 60’s period with a name change to the 23rd Turn Off (Liverpool being the 23rd turn off from the M6). In turn, one release resulted, the astounding “Michelangelo”, a beautifully crafted ballad, scored with some Penny Lane-esque trumpet and tinged with Campbell’s innate sense of melancholia. Following the 23rd Turn Off Campbell and Billy Kinsley went on to record the highly rated ‘Rockin Horse’ album, recently reissued by Rev-Ola. On this RPM collection you have the entire recordings of the Kirkbys and 23rd Turnoff, the released, the unreleased, the demos, in chronological order, packaged in rare and perfect period photos with notes from extensive interviews with group members.
