Flowers In The Sky - Revolving Paint Dream

Flowers In The Sky
Not a great deal is known about Revolving Paint Dream, a psychedelic pop band that recorded sporadically for Alan McGee's Creation label in the '80s All Music Guide Search the internet and that is pretty much what you see...pretty odd for a band who made two acclaimed albums, and the classic single Flowers In The Sky, one of the highlights of the early Creation Records, perhaps the epitome and high-watermark of their Paisley Underground period, and yet, the names and aural fingerprints of people like Andrew Innes (Primal Scream), Joe Foster (Creation co-founder and house producer) and label owner Alan McGee are all over these records as producers, writers, who knows what? The sleevenote on the first album mainly propose them as some species of zookeepers or mental health nurses to be honest. There is an almost total absence of pictures - those that do exist seem to feature early Creation Records scene figures like J. C. Bouchard and Luke Hayes with several shadowy figures, sometimes on the Paris Metro, at unidentified airports, somewhere unspecified but clearly in California, or on what appears to be the West Coast of Scotland on a particularly disappointing day. There are even some of an open air show at some European location - perhaps the greatest mystery of the Indie label era will it be unraveled by this definitive CD release? Who knows? There will be input from all the known players and some with people alleged to be involved in the worst way - and perhaps an inkling of the shocking secret at the very heart of The Revolving Paint Dream. The definitive collection, in as far as anything so nebulous can be definitive. Wonderfully remastered from the surviving tapes and includes the seminal indie hit Flowers In The Sky.

Magpie Eyes: 1982-85
Yes, the “seminally seminal” guitar slingers from the dawn of Creation Records whose measly two singles have since become something of the holy grail for those who like their ’80s pop equal parts bubbling melancholia, Byrdsian jangle and anthemic flag-waving. ‘Magpie Eyes 1982-1985’ gathers together practically everything they released, and didn’t release for that matter, in their short but perfectly-formed lifetime. As well as the aforementioned “Why Does The Rain” and “Up The Hill And Down The Slope” (huge indie hits when such things actually mattered), here are studio out-takes, BBC sessions and live tracks as well as contributions from James Dean Bradfield, Alan McGee, Janice Long, Steve Lamacq, Dave Gedge, me, the whole celebrity fan club in fact! The Loft have reformed after 20 years of acrimony to play some shows too. It really doesn’t get any better than this. Our Price: £9.95
