Run’the Length Of Your Wildness - Kathe Green

Run’the Length Of Your Wildness
Wow! Something of a major discovery here we thinks. Californian actress/model/singer Kathe Green cut this hugely sought after but rare-as-hell long player for Deram in 1969 after having appeared in’the Party with Peter Sellers. Finding herself in London as guest and bosom buddy of Richard Harris, himself enjoying a spin-off career as a hugely successful pop star at the time, Kathe found herself singing Mark Lester'svocal parts on Where Is Love? for the soon-to-be-massive Oliver soundtrack. She was snapped up by Deram where she was teamed up with in-house whiz-kid producer Wayne Bickerton, arranger supreme John Cameron and the cream of London session players. Kathe wrote 10 of the album's13 tracks, which recall all manner of contemporary female vocalists of the time, from Marianne Faithfull to Sandie Shaw to Dana Gillespie (with whom Kathe shared Bickerton'sproduction savvy, not to mention a couple of his tunes). She also turns in a lump-to-the-throat reading of Cameron'sperennial If I Thought You d Ever Change Your Mind. Housed in a striking sleeve which featured gushing notes by the likes of Peter Sellers, Rex Harrison and Simon Dee and named after a line of poetry bestowed on her by Richard Harris himself, Run the Length Of Your Wildness disappeared as quickly as it had come, only being picked up on through internet exposure over the last year or so. Produced in conjunction with Kathe herself, Rev-Ola is proud, nay humbled, to present the first ever reissue of this lost late 60s femme pop classic!

Pygmalion is the final album by the band Slowdive, released on February 6, 1995. A departure from their previous two albums, Pygmalion incorporated a more experimental sound tilted towards ambient electronic music, with sparse, atmospheric arrangements. All compositions were by Neil Halstead. Lyrics on tracks Miranda and Visions of La by Rachel Goswell. The cover illustration is by acclaimed designer Steven Woodhouse. It was the final album before Slowdive disbanded in 1995, an event widely associated with the demise of shoegazing. This re-issue long out of print now has an enhanced booklet with new sleeve notes by Mojo’s Kieron Tyler. Re-mastered from original tapes, it features a whole disc of rare demos never before released on CD.

"Inspired by drug-fuelled trips to Brixton clubnight Quirky, ‘Pygmalion’ was mainly conceived by guitarist and songwriter Neil Halstead in his west London flat – instruments are looped into infinity, while Halstead and Rachel Goswell’s vocals float in and out of the ether.”

There are whispers of Cherry Red Records releasing a luxurious Dandelion 45's (singles) Box Set with the participation of Clive & Shurley Selwood and many of the legendary label's artists? Whilst John Peel fans and music collectors alike wait with anticipation to see if the rumours are true, Cherry Red releases two albums from the Dandelion catalogue to whet the appetite, both from the curiously spectacular, Principal Edwards Magic Theatre. The multi-media PEMT cut a compellingly original swathe through a late-1960s music scene seemingly inhabited by wall-to-wall blues bands. Their first ever gig was witnessed by benefactor and producer John Peel. The legendary DJ promptly signed them to his Dandelion label. 'I guess he liked what he heard,' says guitarist and chief songwriter Root Cartwright. A stand-alone single released before the first album, 'Ballad (Of The Big Girl Now And A Mere Boy)'/ 'Lament For The Earth', is included in this package as a bonus track. 'Soundtrack' hit the record racks in August 1969, the third Dandelion long-player to be released in short order following debut efforts from folksingers Bridget St John and Beau. Our Price: £9.95

More Of The Cake
What links New Orleans Maestro Harold Battiste, Dr. John, The Soft Machine, The Daily Flash, Tiny Tim, Jack Nitsche, Sonny and Cher, Traffic, Jimi Hendrix and Ginger Baker's Airforce? The Cake, the last of the classic girl groups, whose two 1967/68 albums are as they say a game of two (sometimes three!) halves, classic girl groupisms mixed with Baroque Pop, Wyrd Folk, Psychpop and club R&B, all with a wonderful good humour. Fans of the esoteric might care to know that Kevin Ayers' song "Eleanor's Cake Which Ate Her" is about the group, that they sang backing vocals on Electric Ladyland and the first Soft Machine album. Also Eleanor herself sang ‘I Got You Babe’ with Tiny Tim (backed by The Band) in the cult movie "You Are What You Eat". A wonderful snapshot of the Sunset Strip, with a wonderfully decadent atmosphere for three such innocent'll just love it! The Cake recently reformed to play the prestigious launch party for the forthcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic, and who knows – they may come to your town soon... Never previously on CD cult artists, wonderfully re-mastered by Mr. Nick Robbins and with gorgeous packaging featuring wonderful pictures provided by The Cake and legendary rock photographer Ed Caraeff.

Morricone In Colour 4CD Box Set
With his peerless versatility and productivity, Ennio Morricone is one of the most famous and influential composers of the twentieth century.
Drawing from an extraordinary range of musical styles, his 500 film scores have
accompanied every conceivable musical genre.
Morricone's innovative soundscapes for Sergio Leone's mid-sixties spaghetti westerns
changed film music forever. In any context, the composer's work is a formidable
combination of eclecticism, sensuality and playfulness.
The eight film soundtracks featured in the this box set all derive from the period between the late sixties and mid-seventies when the Maestro was in his pomp. The arty erotica of Giuseppe Patroni Griffi's Metti, una sera a cena is perfectly complimented by Morricone's cool jazz score and his music gives humour and great beauty to such offbeat period pieces as Forza g and Il Gatto and the abstraction that is L'assoluto naturale (starring the Yugoslavian actress Sylvia Koscina and the superb Laurence Harvey).
Arguably the most impressive of the set are the composer's scores for the early Argento giallos, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage and Four Flies on Grey Velvet. In the former, Morricone's ominous, haunting music establishes an almost unbearable suspense and for the latter combines bracing atonality with a send up of progressive rock (the director's first experiment with such music and a prelude to Goblin)
