Book a Trip 2: More Psych Pop Sounds of Capitol Records - Various Artists

Book a Trip 2: More Psych Pop Sounds of Capitol Records

Once more, NOW SOUNDS raids the Capitol Records vaults in Hollywood for late-’60s Psychedelic Pop/Soft Pop obscurities and unearths a treasure trove of first-time-on-CD gems.

Productions by the likes of MICHAEL LLOYD collide with arrangements by MORT GARSON and GENE PAGE and compositions by HARRY NILSSON and KIM FOWLEY, and performances by many legendary Wrecking Crew members, proving why Capitol Records was the undisputed leader of pop during this pivotal era.

ALL original Capitol singles, circa 1966–1969, are sourced from ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES. Some are presented here in STEREO for the first time ever! Most tracks are FIRST TIME ON CD!

The 24-page, full-colour booklet also includes rare, unpublished photos and extensive track-by-track liner notes that feature the participation of many original band members, arrangers, and producers.

Mastered by Alan Brownstein FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES! Produced and compiled by STEVE STANLEY

Expansions On Life
The starting point for Sweet guitarist Andy Scott, The Elastic Band emerged from the ashes of mid-'60s Welsh soul revue the Silverstone Set to make a couple of highly-regarded 1968 mod pop/blue-eyed soul singles for Decca.
But a year on the underground gig circuit supporting the likes of Hendrix and Pink Floyd impacted significantly on the band's musical direction. When they returned to the studio in the summer of 1969, it was to cut Expansions On Life, a dazzling 50-minute collection of late psychedelic/early progressive rock moves which suggested that the new-look Elastic Band could be genuine contenders. Inexplicably, though, Decca delayed its release until March 1970, by which time the band had fallen apart, lead singer Ted Yeadon having left in December 1969 to replace Steve Ellis in the Love Affair. As a result, Decca barely promoted the album, which duly sank without trace
Established for the last couple of decades as a heavy duty rarity amongst collectors of vintage British psychedelia and progressive rock, Expansions On Life now receives what is, incredibly, its first-ever official UK reissue. With a 16-page booklet, extensive liner notes, restored artwork and master-tape sound as well as some priceless photographs, this definitive reissue of Expansions On Life also features all four tracks from the band's equally collectable 45s, including the regularly compiled psychedelic pop nugget ‘8 ½ Hours Of Paradise'.

Day Of The Fox / In Flight
Tripping the light fantastic of breezy west coast harmony pop mixed with atmospheric melodic folk pop. Here are the third and fourth LPs by the UK six piece vocal group whose sound was described as the perfect musical accompaniment to a garden party in the blazing sunshine . In the UK the group were contemporary rivals to The New Seekers and Arrival.

They recorded five LPs and 13 singles between 1970-1976. For the third and fourth LPs more of the groups own compositions were recorded exhibiting a slightly heavier edge in places than before, such as on Pisces Hymn. In the studio the group were augmented by the cream of UK session musicians Chris Spedding, Herbie Flowers, Roger Coulam, Barry Morgan, and overseen by Adrian Kerridge .

None of the recordings have ever been reissued or on CD, in the main because the copyrights were hidden away in an independent company which dissolved. There has meanwhile been plenty of interest with tracks appearing on several bootleg compilations and download sites.

Further to this recent exposure and profile raising has come from the worldwide release of several DVD compilations of 70’s TV shows from Morecambe & Wise, The Two Ronnies, Tommy Cooper, and more, all featuring appearances by Design.

This Little Girls' Gone Rockin'
Unavailable for many years, RPM is pleased to be able to announce this long-awaited collection, featuring the vocal talents of arguably the best female singer ever to pass through the hallowed portals of Holloway Road - GLENDA COLLINS. This new release brings together every single she recorded for Joe Meek's studio, some sixteen tracks in all. It's long been a matter of debate just why Glenda didn't manage to break through into the big - time, though the feeling is that if Meek had been able to put as much time into promotion as he did into production, things would have been very different. Certainly there are some stunning tracks here, up front beat numbers which still crackle with energy thirty years later, contrasting with catchy poppier tunes. Our Price: £9.95
