Beautiful Sun |
| |
|
Released 23/03/09. The Peppermint Trolley Company sang the themes of both Love, American Style and the first season of The Brady Bunch. They once performed in front of an audience of 120,000. In addition, the band from Redlands, California recorded one of the most essential but sadly overlooked L.A. soft psych studio offerings ever. Reissued here for the first time ever is their glorious self-titled 1968 album, reminiscent of The Left Banke, The Association, and Buffalo Springfield.
Beautiful Sun features numerous arrangements by Chad, Stuart Of Chad & Jeremy, and a cameo performance by Roger Nichols on Trust, a song he co-wrote with Paul Williams. Also included is the Billboard Top 60 hit Baby You Come Rollin Cross My Mind. 16 bonus tracks round out this collection, including non-LP cuts, mono single mixes, and rare sides recorded under their earlier monikers, The Mark Five, The C Minors, And The Intercoms.
The full-colour, 16-page booklet also includes previously unpublished photos, and exhaustive liner notes that feature the participation of original band members. |

Twinn Connexion |
| |
|
Jay and Jerry Hopkins, The Twinn Connexion, were like no musical act anyone had ever seen before. The striking, identical blonde twins graced their 1968 Decca debut, Twinn Connexion in matching shag haircuts, floral-patterned brocade mod suits, and sharp white ankle boots. Even their ascots matched.
The music on Twinn Connexion was as unique as their look: soft-pop vocals steeped in sunshine and psychedelia-lite arrangements, complete with electric sitar and harpsichord, delivered by seasoned New York session men.
After being forgotten for years, Twinn Connexion, their lone album, has become a beloved soft-pop obscurity, fetching high prices on the collectors' market. The album will get its first legitimate CD release the Now Sounds way: with 8 bonus tracks, a deluxe 24-page booklet, loaded with rare photos and exclusive commentary from surviving Twinn, Jerry Hopkins!
Produced by Jerry Keller, cowriter of The Cyrkle hit ‘Turn Down Day,' Twinn Connexion was described by soft-pop expert Dawn Eden as "at once brilliant, enticing, and maddening"
Still, most of the songs that landed on their debut, Twinn Connexion, are more like the soundtrack for a psychedelic walk in the park (or a "Sixth Avenue Stroll"!) on a spring afternoon. Enjoy the sunshine. |

The Deep Six |
| |
|
The Deep Six, (five men and one woman!) are really kind of the missing link between the "slightly hipper Seekers" style of such California folk-pop groups as The Goldebriars, The We Five and The Back Porch Majority, and the next wave of softpop and rock influenced artists like Curt Boettcher's The Ballroom, The Mamas and The Papas, The Peanut Butter Conspiracy and even the early Jefferson Airplane
This, their only album is quite bizarre, applying the new musics to what was obviously their earlier variety show influenced performance style....show tunes, pop covers and self penned folk-rock tunes all given a superb and subtle fuzz-tinged softpop treatment that showed that the times they really were a' changing....and pretty darn fast.
A top collectable for many years, this first-ever CD issue also includes all their scarily rare non-LP singles, a treasure trove of never before seen photographs of the group at the height of the Sunset Strip scene, as folk became rock, and detailed liner notes with contributions from the artists.....a timely release for a key group in the evolution of folk rock and Softpop....
This is the first time ever on CD for these tracks and included is the rare World Pacific album, and all their even rarer singles plus a lavishly illustrated booklet with detailed sleevenotes.
