Love Heals : The Complete Recordings - Colours

Love Heals : The Complete Recordings

COLOURS launched onto the scene in 1968 with a stunningly glorious psychedelic masterpiece of L.A studio wizardry. A "super group” before the name was coined, Colours was the brainchild of GARY MONTGOMERY & JACK DALTON, two hard-working, former MOTOWN songwriters who also penned songs for THE TURTLES, NINO & APRIL and THE MOON. This magical mystery tour-de-force of psychedelic Beatlesque pop also features the talents of DEREK & THE DOMINOS’ bassist CARL RADLE.

This first-ever CD issue of their long-out-of-print albums (Colours and Atmosphere) is supplemented by long-lost ’67 Dalton & Montgomery recordings cut just months before they formed Colours. 1969’s Atmosphere features former BEACH BOY DAVID MARKS around the same time he was a member of THE MOON—another band with many connections to Colours.

The 16-page colour booklet also includes rare, unpublished photos and comprehensive liner notes that feature the participation of original band members.

A Midsummer's Day Dream (Expanded Edit ion ion)

Mark Eric Malmborg (along with arranger and ex-Animal Vic Briggs) constructed this beautiful album, a unique pastiche of Four Freshman/Beach Boys sensibilities coupled with wistful melancholia. Defiantly soft, 1969 s A Midsummer’s Day Dream caught the tail end of Los Angeles 60s pop innocence perfectly, just as it slipped into infinity. 2002 s CD reissue of A Midsummer’s Day Dream (itself now out of print) caught the soft pop collector s world entirely off guard: Very few were aware of the LP s existence, and the reaction was united: A masterpiece was unleashed and a new generation of daydreamers was born! The result was glowing reviews in Mojo and Uncut, a Japanese edition, as well as soaring prices for the original long out-of-print vinyl pressing. This Expanded Edition of the stone classic is supplemented by 16 bonus tracks recorded around the same time as the LP. 8 of these bonus tracks culled from master tapes Mark recently discovered Are Exclusive To This Expanded Edition! The full-colour, 20-page booklet also includes Exclusive, previously unpublished photos, and Updated and Expanded liner notes that feature the participation of Mark Eric himself. Now Sounds, the new imprint from Cherry Red, was established by Steve Stanley, producer of over 50 Rev-Ola titles

Beautiful Sun
Released 23/03/09. The Peppermint Trolley Company sang the themes of both Love, American Style and the first season of The Brady Bunch. They once performed in front of an audience of 120,000. In addition, the band from Redlands, California recorded one of the most essential but sadly overlooked L.A. soft psych studio offerings ever. Reissued here for the first time ever is their glorious self-titled 1968 album, reminiscent of The Left Banke, The Association, and Buffalo Springfield. Beautiful Sun features numerous arrangements by Chad, Stuart Of Chad & Jeremy, and a cameo performance by Roger Nichols on Trust, a song he co-wrote with Paul Williams. Also included is the Billboard Top 60 hit Baby You Come Rollin Cross My Mind. 16 bonus tracks round out this collection, including non-LP cuts, mono single mixes, and rare sides recorded under their earlier monikers, The Mark Five, The C Minors, And The Intercoms. The full-colour, 16-page booklet also includes previously unpublished photos, and exhaustive liner notes that feature the participation of original band members. Our Price: £9.95

Janis Ian
Release date TBA. Janis Ian captured the frustrations, awkwardness, and inner turmoil of teenaged existence with a clarity and maturity well beyond her tender age. Recorded when she was just 15 years old, Janis Ian was released in 1967 with the controversial Top 20 hit single "Society¹s Child." A dozen or so labels rejected the Shadow Morton-produced recording about interracial romance before it found release on Verve Folkways. A radio station in Atlanta was burned to the ground for playing it, and Janis received deaththreats for writing it. Recorded with some of New York¹s finest session musicians, including Artie Butler on harpsichord, piano, and organ, Vinnie Bell and Al Gorgoni on guitars, Joe Mack on bass, and Buddy Saltzman on drums, Janis Ian, a Billboard Pop #29 hit album, has miraculously never been issued in Europe on CD. Until NOW! Our Price: £9.95
