Sunshine Girl: The Complete Recordings - Parade (The)

Sunshine Girl: The Complete Recordings

The Parade were Murray MacLeod (also a member of The Roger Nichols Trio/Small Circle of Friends), Jerry Riopelle (Phil Spector protégé and former Philles staff producer), and Smokey Roberds (songwriter and actor). Originally signed to A&M Records, The Parade not only created a definitively West Coast pop sound but also unknowingly helped establish the sunshine pop genre via their 1967 Billboard Top 20 hit, ‘Sunshine Girl’.

This first-ever complete collection of the trio’s recorded output features the talents of no less than a pre-Loggins Jimmy Messina, Earl Palmer, Hal Blaine, David Gates, and other L.A./Wrecking Crew luminaries.

The gorgeous 16 page full-colour booklet also includes rare, previously unpublished photos and comprehensive liner notes that feature the participation of all original band members.

Singles A’s & B’s Vol.1 1964-1966

Shout! Records is delighted to present the first CD series to collate the singles recordings by Joe Tex from his hit years on the Dial label and their Atlantic licensee, chronologically sequenced, and featuring the A-side and B-side of each 45. On this, Volume One, covering the years 1964 to 1966.

Joe was already a veteran of a decade of recordings on King, Ace and earlier Dial releases when producer Buddy Killen took him to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, in October 1964 to record ‘Hold What You've Got'. The disc was a crossover smash hit, and the rest is history. Each of the 11 A-sides in this collection reached the R&B top 20 and the US national Hot 100, providing a lasting impression of infectious mix of humour and soul philosophy that graced the music of Joe Tex.

Although there have been numerous CD re-issues of Joe's music, all to date have been either selective ‘greatest hits' collections or have re-packaged various albums, so this is a ground-breaking ‘first' in chronicling the illustrious career of the man dubbed ‘The Clown Prince of Soul', Joe Tex.

First collection of Joe Tex singles in sequence of releases. Features all the A-sides and B-sides & 11 R&B top 20 hits including two chart-toppers. Each single was also a Billboard Hot 100 hit. Booklet features track by track annotation.

A Midsummer's Day Dream (Expanded Edit ion ion)

Mark Eric Malmborg (along with arranger and ex-Animal Vic Briggs) constructed this beautiful album, a unique pastiche of Four Freshman/Beach Boys sensibilities coupled with wistful melancholia. Defiantly soft, 1969 s A Midsummer’s Day Dream caught the tail end of Los Angeles 60s pop innocence perfectly, just as it slipped into infinity. 2002 s CD reissue of A Midsummer’s Day Dream (itself now out of print) caught the soft pop collector s world entirely off guard: Very few were aware of the LP s existence, and the reaction was united: A masterpiece was unleashed and a new generation of daydreamers was born! The result was glowing reviews in Mojo and Uncut, a Japanese edition, as well as soaring prices for the original long out-of-print vinyl pressing. This Expanded Edition of the stone classic is supplemented by 16 bonus tracks recorded around the same time as the LP. 8 of these bonus tracks culled from master tapes Mark recently discovered Are Exclusive To This Expanded Edition! The full-colour, 20-page booklet also includes Exclusive, previously unpublished photos, and Updated and Expanded liner notes that feature the participation of Mark Eric himself. Now Sounds, the new imprint from Cherry Red, was established by Steve Stanley, producer of over 50 Rev-Ola titles

Year One
Released 29/06/09. The Golden Gate was the brainchild of Reid Whitelaw and Billy Carl, two songwriters reeling from the recent success of penning and singing on the 1910 Fruitgum Company’s 1968 hit “Goody Goody Gumdrops.” 1969’s Year One would follow a different path. Aided with some of New York and Philadelphia’s finest studio musicians—and the background vocals of none other than members of The Tradewinds (“New York’s A Lonely Town”)—The Golden Gate bridged lushly orchestrated soft pop, Bacharach-influenced Brill pop, Beach Boys/Four Seasons-influenced harmonies, with slight bubblegum affectations. The Golden Gate was not long for this world and ceased operation shortly after the release of this, their lone LP. Coveted by Japanese soft pop collectors for years, it’s not uncommon for mint original copies of Year One to fetch three figures. Making its worldwide CD debut, Year One is augmented by 7 Bonus Tracks, which were culled directly from original master tapes. Our Price: £9.95

Wonder Where I'm Bound
Released on 24/05/10. Dion’s lost folk-rock masterpiece! Wonder Where I’m Bound is a fascinating glimpse into Dion’s lost renaissance and documents this major artist’s wandering into an artistically compelling new direction: a mélange of blues, folk, and plaintive balladry. In the wake of Dion’s 1968 commercial comeback with Abraham, Martin, and John, Columbia dusted off a collection of Dion Di Mucci s voluminous studio work for the label and dubbed it Wonder Where I m Bound. Producers Bil Keane and Jimmy Wisner also added orchestration to Dion’s folk-rock reading of Tom Paxton’s I Can’t Help But Wonder Where I’m Bound (copying the style of Abraham, Martin And John ) for a single release in February 1969. Despite two 1990s compilations of Dion’s Columbia recordings, much of the material from 1969 s Wonder Where I’m Bound has eluded release on CD, UNTIL NOW! This release includes five tracks produced by the legendary Tom Wilson (Bob Dylan, Velvet Underground). Our Price: £9.95
