A Midsummer's Day Dream (Expanded Edit ion ion) - Mark Eric

A Midsummer's Day Dream (Expanded Edit ion ion)

Mark Eric Malmborg (along with arranger and ex-Animal Vic Briggs) constructed this beautiful album, a unique pastiche of Four Freshman/Beach Boys sensibilities coupled with wistful melancholia. Defiantly soft, 1969 s A Midsummer’s Day Dream caught the tail end of Los Angeles 60s pop innocence perfectly, just as it slipped into infinity. 2002 s CD reissue of A Midsummer’s Day Dream (itself now out of print) caught the soft pop collector s world entirely off guard: Very few were aware of the LP s existence, and the reaction was united: A masterpiece was unleashed and a new generation of daydreamers was born! The result was glowing reviews in Mojo and Uncut, a Japanese edition, as well as soaring prices for the original long out-of-print vinyl pressing. This Expanded Edition of the stone classic is supplemented by 16 bonus tracks recorded around the same time as the LP. 8 of these bonus tracks culled from master tapes Mark recently discovered Are Exclusive To This Expanded Edition! The full-colour, 20-page booklet also includes Exclusive, previously unpublished photos, and Updated and Expanded liner notes that feature the participation of Mark Eric himself. Now Sounds, the new imprint from Cherry Red, was established by Steve Stanley, producer of over 50 Rev-Ola titles

Shut Up And Bleed
Released 21/07/08. The seminal No - Wave band Teenage and Jesus and The Jerks were lead by primal screamer and guitarist Lydia Lunch, an individual who has fought her artistic way through the decades, always true to her own vision and always brutally honest. In early 1978, artist and producer Brian Eno attended a series of shows put on to benefit the Artist's Space in Soho and influenced Island Records to finance an anthology LP featuring the four strongest bands - Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, The Contortions, Mars and DNA. The resulting recording, entitled No New York and produced by Eno, remains as one of the most impressive and extraordinarily bold debuts of the time. Here we compiled all Teenage Jesus and The Jerks recordings, alongside some never previously released live material. Mojo Magazine awarded a very respectable 3 stars to this CD. Our Price: £9.95

Are Not For Smoking
Released on 28/09/09. A keenly sought after repress for this best-selling release which includes their only LP from 1967, together with all of their non- LP singles in the original Mono, making the first ever complete collection by these masters of Soft Pop. From Rochester, NY, one of the later signings to legendary New York Doo-Wop label Jubilee Records; The Blades Of Grass were one of the prime east coast exponents (along with The Free Design) of that usually West coast genre of Sunshine Pop. It's complex, baroque harmonies and optimistic atmosphere having a much overlooked but firm second front in the city that never sleeps. Indeed, the group's first hit single Happy went head-to- head in a chart battle with LA's Sunshine Company, as did their version of the Peter Sellers film title-track I Love You Alice B.Toklas with Harpers Bizarre shortly afterwards. Although The Blades' version with it's vocal phasing and psychy effect-laden intro and outro, somewhat had the edge stylistically. See the detailed notes, featuring interviews with group members, for more details on the extraordinary story of the Blades of Grass. Written with complete participation from all of the band members.
