The Very Best of Janie / Saddle The Wind - Janie Fricke

The Very Best of Janie / Saddle The Wind
•    Janie Fricke’s vocal tones enhanced the recordings of many country stars, as one of the most sought-after backing singers in Nashville.  It’s said that producer Billy Sherrill signed her up in her own right in 1977 after a group of country radio DJs pleaded with him to reveal the identity of the distinctive tones they’d heard on so many hits!

•    One of the most popular female country singers; from 1977-1989 Janie had charted 38 singles including 9 No.1s. Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year in 1982 and 1983.  Academy of Country Music Awards Top Female Vocalist in 1983.

•    "The Very Best Of Janie” released in 1985 includes two Grammy-nominated songs ‘Your Heart’s Not In It’ and ‘She’s Single Again’.  The album contains nine Top 10 singles, five of which reached No. 1 in the country charts.  The bonus track on this album was the previously unreleased duet with Merle Haggard ‘Ridin’ High’.

•    "Saddle The Wind” released in 1988 may not be as hit-packed as its companion but is regarded by her fans as one of her finest albums.

•    Annoyed by mis-pronunciations of her name, she changed the spelling to ‘Frickie’ in 1986 but changed it back to the original spelling a few years later.

Teach Me Tonight
Released 16th February 2009. When Blossom Dearie first emerged as a solo artist she was already unique in many ways. Straightaway there was that voice - kittenish, intimate, coquettish and understated where so many other jazz divas were straining to belt out every song. With the fascinating 1957-58 albums Give Him the Ooh-la-la and Once Upon a Summertime Blossom finds a unique, light, refined niche on the pop side of jazz. Ray Brown remains for the 1958 set with Herb Ellis and Jo Jones replaced by Mundell Lowe and Ed Thigpen. Our Price: £9.95

Think it Over (Expanded Edition)
Cissy Houston (born Emily Drinkard) has had a long and varied career as a background vocalist, session singer and solo artist but is probably best known for being the mother of the massively successful R&B star Whitney Houston, and the aunt of both Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick. Houston began her career with the family gospel group The Drinkards before joining forces with The Group in the early 60’s. The Group, which included some time members Doris Troy and Dee Dee Warwick, sang background vocals on a number of soul, pop and rock releases, many of which were on Atlantic Records. Atlantics Jerry Wexler signed the group in their own right where they recorded some great gospel-soul in the late 60’s under the name The Sweet Inspirations.

During her time with The Sweet Inspirations Houston sang back-up vocals for Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Lou Rawls, The Drifters, Dusty Springfield, Van Morrison (Brown Eyed Girl), The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Elvis Presley (the ’69 Vegas comeback) and her niece Dionne Warwick. Having gone solo in 1969 Houston recorded the original version of "Midnight Train To Georgia” (later a #1 single for Gladys Knight and The Pips) on her only album for Janus Records.

In 1978 Houston released THINK IT OVER, her second LP on Private Stock Records under the guidance of arranger/producer Michael Zager. This album introduced Houston to the Disco world with the title track and lead single "Think It Over”
reaching a respectable #32 on the Billboard R&B charts and #5 on the Disco charts. "Think It Over” is bona-fide dance floor dynamite with its solid beat and shuffling percussive elements that propel the track forward, the beautiful marriage of piano and strings augmented with arresting, uplifting horn refrains, married to Houston’s incredible, gospel infused, soulful and impassioned vocal. The second single "Warning – Danger” is in much the same vain, again the piano, string and horn interplay is oh so satisfying. Other strong tracks are the groover "Somebody Should Have Told Me,” and the bold ballad "After You” which showcases Houston’s vocal dexterity.

BBR is very proud to present CISSY HOUSTON, expertly re-mastered and complete with extensive liner notes and bonus tracks. CISSY HOUSTON is absolutely essential listening for all Soul, Disco and Pop fans out there!

Bad Attitude: 30th Anniversary Edition
•    "Bad Attitude” is Meat Loaf’s fourth studio album. Representing an upswing in the singer’s career, the album features four singles; ‘Nowhere Fast’, ‘Modern Girl’, ‘Surf's Up’ and ‘Piece Of The Action’.

•    After the phenomenal success of debut LP "Bat Out Of Hell” in 1977 (34 million copies and counting), Meat Loaf followed it with 1981’s "Dead Ringer”, another sizeable hit, with both albums showcasing the mercurial song writing talents of Jim Steinman. Having then parted company with Steinman, 1983’s "Midnight At The Lost And Found” found the singer in somewhat of a commercial dip, until 1984’s "Bad Attitude”. It features two Steinman penned tunes, ‘Surf’s Up’, previously recorded for Jim Steinman’s solo debut "Bad For Good” in 1981 plus ‘Nowhere Fast’, which had originally been written for the soundtrack to the movie "Streets Of Fire”.

•    There are also two notable duets on this record; The Who’s Roger Daltrey appears on the title track, whilst Clare Torry, who is probably best known for her vocals on Pink Floyd’s "Dark Side Of The Moon”, duets on ‘Modern Girl’.

•    This edition is packaged in a digi-pak with extensive liner notes, 16 page booklet, plus plenty of rare artwork and memorabilia.

1.    BAD ATTITUDE (Duet With Roger Daltrey)
