Master Of The Art / Viva - Ray Price / Porter Wagoner

Master Of The Art / Viva

When it comes to country legends, they don’t come much bigger than Ray Price and Porter Wagoner.

RAY PRICE

Price, whose 65 year career ended with his death in December, 2013 aged 87, was one of Country Music’s last links to the days of Hank Williams and 78 RPM records.  Price’s wide-ranging baritone was regarded as one of the best male voices in Country Music.  Known as "The Cherokee Cowboy”, Ray Price had 109 Country Chart hits between 1952 and 1989, two of which, ‘Willie, Write Me A Song’ and ‘Scotch And Soda’ are included here.

PORTER WAGONER

Wagoner, known as "The Thin Man From West Plains”, had a very successful recording career but is also famous for introducing the world to Dolly Parton via his long-running US TV show.  Dolly wrote ‘I Will Always Love You’ about Porter when she left the TV show to go solo.  Porter Wagoner had 81 Country Chart hits between 1954 and 1981.  His final hit single ‘This Cowboy’s Hat’ is included here.  Porter died in 2007, aged 80.

Both albums date from 1983 and were released on producer Snuff Garrett’s Viva label.

Both albums appear on CD for the first time.

Jones Country / You’ve Still Got A Place In My Heart
Two original studio albums from the greatest voice in Country Music.
"Jones Country” released in 1983 was a fine album but has the strange distinction of having the single ‘Radio Lover’ released six years later. At the time of the album’s release George’s record company were just about to issue the smash hit duet with Ray Charles ‘We Didn’t See A Thing’ from Ray Charles’ "Friendship” album. This could have been the reason for no initial single releases from "Jones Country”.
The album’s name was taken from an outdoor music park operated and owned by George in Texas near his birthplace between the years 1983 and 1988.
‘You’ve Still Got A Place In My Heart’ was released in 1984, the title track reaching No. 3 in the singles chart.
Both albums produced by Billy Sherrill.
Both albums released for the first time on CD.
