As an all-round modern jazz musician operating out of the Los Angeles area during the 1950 s, Shorty Rogers proved himself to be far more successful than most. Nevertheless, Shorty quickly realised that the long term security that comes with big money, was to be made in the city s bustling television and movie industry, and herein are some intriguing examples.

The Modern Jazz Quartet - The MJQ In The MoviesReleased on 08/02/10. Considering their worldwide popularity, it’s surprising that No Sun In Venice (1957) and Odds Against Tomorrow (1959) are the only two full-length movies for which THE Modern Jazz Quartet were commissioned to supply new, original musical soundtracks composed by John Lewis and performed by the MJQ : John Lewis (piano), Milt Jackson (vibraphone), Percy Heath (bass), and Connie Kay (drums).

Much later, film maker Jim Jamusch selected Baden Baden a track from a 1957 session for inclusion in his 2003 episodic movie Coffee And Cigarettes.
