Assembled by a likeminded team of familiar music industry personalities who call themselves the DEPARTMENT OF ENJOYMENT, they also include entrepreneur JOHN PEARSON, leading sound engineer ANDREW THOMPSON, creative graphics designer MILES JOHNSON and the ever elusive KISSIN' BANDIT himself, Giant Steps Recordings is a label dedicated to preserving expertly remastered modern jazz heritage releases. Nostalgia isn’t included in this label’s vocabulary. Like great art, Giant Steps regards the music as timeless, and, with hindsight, often more relevant today than when it was first recorded. Therefore, great care is given over the process of reinstating neglected recordings and the representation of both great and undervalued artists. Wherever possible, Giant Steps seeks out the best possible sound sources from its vast archive which engineer Andrew Thompson dutifully remasters to the highest technical standards. In dealing with music of historical importance, great care is taken in restoring individual performances without ever betraying the work of the original sound recordists.
