The Ups And Downs
Stephen Duffy s Platinum selling debut album from 1985, featuring the International hit singles Kiss Me and Icing On The Cake This long overdue expanded edition features newly created artwork, a brand new introduction by Stephen, a vintage interview from 1985, plus 9 additional tracks, consisting of rare b-sides and 4 previously unreleased tracks and alternative mixes including the much sought after original version of Kiss Me .

Stephen was a founder member and lead singer of Duran Duran along with Nick Rhodes and John Taylor. He left before Simon Le Bon joined and the ensuing international superstardom of the Duranies. Stephen went on to form the band Tin Tin with Mulligan and Dik Davies of Fashion, Andy "Stoker" Growcott of Dexys Midnight Runners and producer Bob Lamb. They released the first version of Kiss Me through Sire Records, topping the U.S. club charts in 1982 with the band headlining gigs in New York with support from fellow label artist Madonna. Stephen went solo in 1983, releasing this, his debut album in 1985 which was the first of a string of successful solo albums using his trademark smooth vocals and catchy melodies. Stephen later shunned the world of pop to form the critically acclaimed folk group The Lilac Time and the Brit-Pop friendly Duffy.

The Wrong People
Furniture formed in Ealing, West London, 1979 by Jim Irvin, Tim Whelan and Hamilton Lee. They built up a strong following in and around London before bolstering their line up to include Sally Still and Maya Gilda. They released several independent singles through Survival Records before signing to Stiff Records in 1986. Best know for their 1986 single ‘Brilliant Mind' which has since featured on many compilations over the years. At the time of the ‘The Wrong People's' release Stiff Records went into liquidation with only having manufactured 30,000 vinyl copies and no CD. This vinyl has become a cult classic and very sought after over the years. The band eventually called it a day in 1992 with the various members going on to other projects. Jim Irvin fronted a keyboard/voice duo called ‘Because' before turning his hand to journalism, currently writing for Mojo. Tim and Hami formed Transglobal Underground who still record and tour today. This long overdue and debut CD release adds an additional nine bonus tracks. Pulling together b-sides and extended versions from their two singles off the album along with two unreleased demos from the bands own archive. Our Price: £9.95

Independence Days - The Story of UK Independent Record Labels
Even by the standards of Alex Ogg’s previous work (The Hip Hop Years, No More Heroes etc), Independence Days is an exhaustive undertaking. Collating more than 150 interviews, it traces the story of the UK independent record label boom from the late 70s to the mid-80s, a period which saw a new generation of independent spirits take up the baton and revolutionise the course of popular music. Independence Days cover the era’s most celebrated labels including Rough Trade, Beggars Banquet/4AD, Factory, Cherry Red and Mute, and covers releases by notable acts such as The Smiths, Joy Division, The Buzzcocks, Elvis Costello, New Order, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Echo & The Bunnymen, Gary Numan, Teardrop Explodes, Nick Cave, KLF etc. There is also extensive coverage of a myriad of less familiar labels and their unique stories, revealing a fabulous, almost Shakespearean cast of characters along the way, simultaneously profiling their achievements and contributions. From the budget, DIY ethic beloved of many labels and their audiences to the grandiose packaging of Factory and 4AD and eventual chart dominance of Depeche Mode and New Order, all the key moments are documented through painstaking research, analysis and eyewitness accounts. Scheming, rivalries and fiscal brinkmanship contrast with the optimism and opportunism - and incredible diversity of music - of a decade when anything seemed possible. Interviewees include: Geoff Travis, Daniel Miller, Ivo Watts-Russell, Dave Robinson, Ted Carroll, Bill Drummond, Roger Armstrong, Penny Rimbaud, Richard Boon, Martin Mills, Richard Scott, Iain McNay, Mike Stone, Mike Alway, Bob Last, Terri Hooley, Bill Gilliam, Charlie Gillett, Miles Copeland, Seymour Stein and Geoff Davies among others.

Eventide 2CD
Fronted by talented songwriter Billy Franks and his lifelong friend from Fulham Court, Lee Hirons, the Faith Brothers were one of the most hotly-tipped bands of 1985. Their impassioned brand of blue-eyed soul attracted comparisons with The Style Council and the Spencer Davis Group while their socialist views linked them in the media with the likes of Billy Bragg and the Redskins.
Eventide was the Faith Brothers’ debut album, issued on Siren Records in 1985. It reached the Top 75 and included the singles ‘Eventide’ and ‘Whistling In The Dark’ but omitted by their popular radio hits from earlier that year, ‘Country Of The Blind’ and ‘A Stranger On Home Ground’.
Amazingly, Eventide has never before been issued on CD!
This deluxe 2-CD set expands the original 11-track album with a bonus disc of 15 further tracks, adding those missing singles as well as their pre-Siren indie debut ‘A Tradesman’s Entrance’ and a demo version of ‘Newtown’ which graced a flexidisc free with Jamming! magazine.
The Faith brothers were championed by Jamming!’s editor Tony Fletcher, who eventually became their manager. Now a successful author (Keith Moon, The Smiths, REM), Tony has written a heartfelt foreword for this long-overdue reissue.
Compiled with the help of Billy and Lee (and remastered with TLC by Lee), this 2-CD expanded edition boasts re-mastered music as well as a splendid, annotated booklet boasting rare photos and extracts from Billy’s hilarious yet touching autobiography A Far Cry From Sunset.
