Beyond The Pale (Expanded Edition) - Passion Puppets

Beyond The Pale (Expanded Edition)
PASSION PUPPETS were a synth/guitar pop band signed to the legendary Stiff Records, whose only album BEYOND THE PALE was issued in 1984.

In 1983, the London band scored a memorable radio hit with their Spaghetti Western-influenced single ‘Like Dust’, which was popular both in the UK and in Canada.

This is the first time that BEYOND THE PALE has been on CD in the UK (it was only previously available as an expensive import).

The album is remastered from the original tapes with eight bonus tracks, including singles ‘Like Dust’, ‘Voices’ and ‘Beyond The Pale’, many of them debuting on CD.

Original members of PASSION PUPPETS are helping out with this long-overdue reissue, contributing rare photos and pictures for the booklet as well as being involved with the sleeve-notes.

Musically, PASSION PUPPETS fell somewhere between Haircut 100 and early Duran Duran.

Dreams Interrupted
Glaxo Babies were the fore-runners of a wave of Bristol music that spawned The Pop Group, Rip Rig & Panic, Maximum Joy & Pigbag, who all became household names as the jagged edged angst movement quickly gathered respect throughout the world. A firm favourite with John Peel, the Glaxo's soon notched up their first session following on from the highly acclaimed first release - the 12" This your Life EP which included the classic "Who Killed Bruce Lee". Always underrated but never dismissed, they fought back with the blistering Christine Keeler 45 often sighted as the bands finest moment. This collection spans their career, illustrating just how unique and original the Glaxos were, and how their relevance seems ever present with today's jagged edged sounds. Our Price: £9.95

Heaven Is Waiting
The Danse Society were a very special band formed in the early 1980’s and hailed from the Goth heartland of Yorkshire. After their highly regarded album "Seduction" on their own label Society Records, the band signed to Arista Records and released this the excellent "Heaven Is Waiting" album. It's their most complete and accomplished album. During the eighties, the Danse Society created a reputation for lush and atmospheric sounds that separated them from the rest of the gothic scene at the time. The innovative and creative use of keyboards was the element gave the band their distinctive sound. This 15 track collection includes the original UK LP version from 1984 and 4 bonus tracks. The cult singles "2000 Light Years From Home" and "Heaven Is Waiting" are featured and 3 of the bonus tracks are taken from the original cassette version of the album. The CD features the original ‘Heaven Is Waiting’ LP cover along with the other sleeves from the Society Records period. Sleeve notes have been written by Danse Society keyboardist, Lyndon Scarfe and also included is a complete discography of the band. Our Price: £9.95

Like Gangbusters : Expanded Edition
Released on 30th of January 2012. Formed when an expatriate American singer got together with former members of legendary punk outfit Subway Sect, JOBOXERS became a sensation in the 1983 with a Northern Soul infused pop sound.

JOBOXERS' first and biggest UK hit was the #3 smash BOXERBEAT, which was followed months later by the #7 hit JUST GOT LUCKY. This second single also reached the charts in Australia and USA, where it made a big enough impression to be selected for the soundtrack of the Steve Carell comedy The 40-Year-Old Virgin over 20 years later.

JOBOXERS' debut album LIKE GANGBUSTERS reached the US Pop charts and became a Top 20 hit in the UK in addition to producing a third consecutive UK Top 40 hit single in the form of JOHNNY FRIENDLY. A Further non album single JEALOUS LOVE gave the band their fourth hit of an amazing debut year. In addition to containing the now rare original 7" and 12" remixes, this 20 track expanded remaster also contains rare b-sides Let's Talk About Love, Why Don't You Do Right (Get Me Some Money Too) and Forget Me Love as well as the hit JEALOUS LOVE, of which the studio version makes it’s CD debut here.

Press:-

"(this album) showcases a band that were more than just a couple of chart hits. Riproaring piano player Dave Gollard’s work fires most of the album, and the success of current acts like Caro Emerald and Paloma Faith suggests JoBoxers’ output deserves a second glance”.

Daily Express / January 2012 / Dave Esson

"Their image was as striking as their sound, with 1920s-esque working class style and a sound that mixed Northern Soul and pop on the likes of ‘Boxerbeat’, as well as following charting singles ‘Just Got Lucky’ and ‘Johnny Friendly’.

Vive Le Rock / Issue 6 / Gem Pitt

"It’s a brash, eclectic set that’s well worth reappraisal, particularly second single Just Got Lucky.”

Samantha Fox
"Samantha Fox", the 1987 sophomore album from the perennial pop icon and pin-up, receives a Deluxe Edition reissue on Cherry Pop.

Developing Samantha’s pop-rock sound and broadening her appeal, "Samantha Fox" features five UK hit singles, the irresistible Stock Aitken Waterman classic "Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now" (#8), "I Surrender (To The Spirit Of The Night)" (#25), "I Promise You (Get Ready)", "True Devotion" and "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)" (#31) – Samantha’s first collaboration with Full Force, which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her most successful single Stateside.
Digitally remastered direct from the master tapes, this Deluxe Edition brings together the original 10-track album with 20 bonus tracks across two CDs. Sought-after B-sides and many 12" mixes originally only issued on vinyl feature alongside two unheard tracks, "The Right Stuff" and "Hot Tonight", which was later reworked as "Hot For You" on Samantha’s 1989 album "I Wanna Have Some Fun". Also featured are unheard mixes of "I Surrender (To The Spirit Of The Night)" and Samantha’s cover of the Stones’ classic "(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction", which was initially considered for release as a sixth single from the album in mid-1988.

Compiled with personal input from Samantha herself, the extensive booklet also features many additional photos, a fully illustrated discography and recording data, full lyrics and new sleeve notes written especially for this release.
The only British female artist to score three Top Ten hits on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1980s, Samantha Fox made her name as the nation’s favourite Page Three girl before launching an enviable music career. The anthemic "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" became a global chart-topper in 1986 and was followed by a succession of hits, including several collaborations with both the legendary Stock Aitken Waterman and US hip-hop pioneers Full Force. Samantha remains a household name, with a new album planned for 2012 and live dates across Europe.

"Samantha Fox" coincides with accompanying Deluxe Editions of Sam’s other three Jive albums: 1986’s "Touch Me", 1989’s "I Wanna Have Some Fun" and 1991’s "Just One Night", and follows many other popular PWL-related reissues on Cherry Pop from artists such as Mel & Kim, Sinitta, Hazell Dean, Sonia, Boy Krazy, Brother Beyond, Pepsi & Shirlie and O’chi Brown.

Press:-

"Fox's self-titled second album was huge, spinning off five chart entries in the UK and spawning the biggest of her six US hits via Naughty Girls (Need Love Too), on which Fox raps alongside then hot hip-hoppers Full Force". Music Week, 03/08/12
