If You Could Read My Mind - Viola Wills

If You Could Read My Mind
Viola Wills was originally a session vocalist on sides that Barry White produced for Bob Keane's Bronco/Mustang labels. In 1965, White signed Wills to Bronco as a solo artist. She recorded several sides for the label; all failed to chart. It would take another decade before Viola would chart a hit.
In 1979, while signed to the Ariola/Hansa label, Wills enjoyed her biggest hit with a disco version of Patience and Prudence's 1957 hit ‘GONNA GET ALONG WITHOUT YOU NOW.’ Recording in an up-tempo Disco/Hi-NRG style, Wills scored dancefloor hits with Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND’ and Carole King & Gerry Goffin’s ‘UP ON THE ROOF.’ IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND became her first Ariola album release in 1980.
Cherry Pop is proud to release the first ever CD version of Viola’s album IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND expertly remastered and complete with liner notes and bonus tracks. It is essential listening for all Hi-NRG, Disco and ‘80s Pop fans out there!

The Three Degrees-Expanded Edition
The Three Degrees' Philadelphia International Records debut made quite an impact upon it's release in 1974.

Having been R&B hit makers for years, the group were no strangers to the American Soul Chart but the pairing of the group with Philadelphia's Gamble & Huff took them to an iconic level of appreciation. The top 20 album spawned the now classic UK #1 When Will I See You Again and the top 20 hit Year Of Decision. Also featured was their Philly debut single Dirty Ol' Man which topped the charts in the Netherlands, staving off the threat of Demis Roussos in the process!

La Toya Jackson
When you hear the name La Toya Jackson all sorts of thoughts spring to mind. Her nude appearances in Playboy, shopping with exotic snakes draped around her shoulders, tell-all books, psychic hotlines and all manner of bizarre stories reported in the tabloid newspapers of the late 1980s and early 90s. Scandal and intrigue have always surrounded La Toya, from her radical transformation from the Jackson's shy sister into a worldwide sex symbol, to her recent re-emergence as a key supporter of her brother Michael during his 2005 trial. The last thing that probably springs into most people's minds is her music. There's a lot more to Grammy Award winning La Toya than just her body-she has a lot of soul too. In this, her 1980 debut album, listen out for ‘Night Time Lover', produced by her brother Michael; the exquisite ‘My Love Has Passed You By', featuring Stevie Wonder on harmonica; ‘Are You Ready', written by Billy Ocean; and the lead single ‘If You Feel The Funk'. The first, ever British release of La Toya Jackson's self-titled album, over 25 years after it was first released in America and Europe in 1980. Including contributions from her brother Michael, sister Janet, Stevie Wonder and Billy Ocean, this is the first release from Cherry Red Records new imprint Cherry Pop, committed to rediscovering the best 80's pop albums and artists.
