Stunning new album in finest tradition of progressive rock and space rock

Pucker up and kiss… the apocalypse.   In the grand tradition of high concept progressive rock comes an epic cross-media hybrid where cerebral science fiction meets visceral rock ‘n’ roll. Sontaag’s eponymous debut album has been described as ‘the space opera that Pink Floyd never wrote’, ‘a modern-day Tubular Bells’, ‘a prog-rock War Of The Worlds’, but no reference point or sound-bite nails its seamless combination of space rock, narrative spoken word, and evocative post-Orb ambience quite as neatly as ‘sonic cinema’.

Recorded in New York City and London, co-produced and mixed by Youth (Killing Joke, The Fireman) for Big Life Management, ‘Sontaag’ is a stunning and immersive listening experience. An evolutionary progression combining cutting edge sounds with classic dynamics, adapting the rock experience for today’s digital environment. Arriving in a landscape where music, books and movies often co-exist on a single handheld device, ‘Sontaag’ represents a seamless fusion of the finest elements of all three.

Sontaag's central sci-fi concept unfolds in a distant galaxy…

The Ancients, through a long process of trial and error, had discovered the secret of synthesizing essential energy from harmonic sound, giving them the power to reanimate extinct planets by utilising giant orbiting sonic generators. But life came at a price. The newly supplanted inhabitants of MP-5 were compelled to provide the musical fuel for The Great Harmodulator simply to stay alive.

Sontaag features Richard Sontaag (composition, instruments, concept, co-production) and Ian Fortnam (story, lyrics, voice, concept).

Flying Again / Airborne
To many people, the mere mention of West Coast country rockers The Flying Burrito Brothers evokes memories of the talismanic Gram Parsons, continuing to live out hisAmerican cosmic music dream. True, Parson’s brief tenure with the band fell in between his even shorter time with The Byrds and his sadly equally short-lived solo career. But as these two Flying Burrito Brothers albums, along with a career that lasted even into the new Millennium, there’s a lot more to the Flying Burritos than Gram Parsons. When Gram Parsons died in September 1973, the legend surrounding his death led to increased interest in his musical legacy. A&M, keen to cashin, released the compilation album Close Up The Honky Tonks in 1974. This in turn prompted band members Ethridge and Kleinow to revive The Flying Burrito Brothers, this time with ex-Byrds guitarist Gene Parsons and country musicians Floyd Gib Guilbeau and Joel Scott Hill. The new-look band signed to Columbia Records, and released Flying Again , the first of these two albums in 1975. It ‘s a perfect example of the way country rock music had developed since The Byrds broke new ground with Sweetheart Of The Rodeo through to the manner in which the likes of the Eagles and Jackson Browne were now beginning to command American airwaves. Wired to Earth
Wired To Earth is the stunning debut album from Swindon Prog rockers Tin Spirits, featuring former XTC guitarist Dave Gregory.

Released "Grounded in prog’s 70s stylings but a nod to darker climes.” on the band’s own VIBROLA label, the album is marketed by Esoteric Recordings’ new front-line label, ESOTERIC ANTENNA, dedicated to new releases by both new acts and established artists. Fans of Dave Gregory, (one of the most original and inventive guitarists the UK has ever produced), will find him in scintillating form on this new release. The album comprises four original compositions, along with a cover of the Genesis classic 'Back in NYC', a heavy hint as to some of the influences at work here. With its complex arrangements, ambitious scale and outstanding musicianship, Wired To Earth channels the spirit of 1970s Progressive rock, yet it remains firmly anchored to the present by strong melodies and irresistible hooks. This is Progressive Rock with impeccable pop sensibilities, and it provides a fittingly rich and varied backdrop for Dave Gregory's superb guitar work. His trademark blend of psychedelic '60s jangle, '70s rock riffing and new wave angularity has never sounded more compelling or vital. However, the band is far from a mere star vehicle for the ex-XTC man. With song-writing duties split four ways, this quartet is about four musicians brought together purely by their love of making music.

The band was formed in 2008, when guitarist Daniel Steinhardt invited his friend and musical hero Dave Gregory to come and jam with The Hi-Fidels, a Swindon-based trio made up of Steinhardt, bassist/vocalist Mark Kilminster and drummer Doug Mussard. An instant connection was made, and what began as four people getting together to play covers for their own enjoyment was clearly destined for greater things. Two and a half years on, fresh from supporting Marillion in front of 3,000 people at the Marillion Weekend 2011 festival in Port Zélande, Netherlands, Tin Spirits have delivered one of the most exciting Progressive Rock releases of the year so far.
