Rock & Roll - Vanilla Fudge

Rock & Roll
NEWLY REMASTERED OFFICIAL EDITION OF THE 1969 ALBUM BY THE LEGENDARY VANILLA FUDGE
WITH FOUR RARE BONUS TRACKS
BOOKLET WITH FULLY RESTORED ARTWORK & ESSAY
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a newly remastered edition of the 1969 album by the legendary proto-progressive American rock group, VANILLA FUDGE.
Long Island’s Vanilla Fudge formed in 1966 when vocalist and organist Mark Stein, bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice came together to form one of the most influential rock trios of the 1960s. Initially inspired by The Rascals’ organ dominated rock, Vanilla Fudge signed to Atlantic Records releasing their self-titled debut album in August 1967. Famous for their extended interpretations of classic material such as ‘You Keep Me Hanging On’ and ‘Eleanor Rigby’, by 1969 the band had influenced emerging bands such as Uriah Heep, Yes and Deep Purple, but had tired of the touring and recording treadmill.
"Rock and Roll” would be the band’s final album of their initial formation. Released in September 1969, the album maintained the excellence of their previous works, featuring self-written material such as ‘Need Love’, ‘Lord in the Country’ along with imaginative covers of ‘The Windmills of Your Mind’, and Carole King and Gerry Goffin’s ‘I Can’t Make it Alone’.
This Esoteric Recordings release has been newly remastered from the original masters and includes an illustrated booklet and a new essay.

24K
The Band of Joy are best known as the outfit that gave Robert Plant and John Bonham their leg-up on the stairway to Zeppelin. While that unrecorded line-up relied on its live reputation to become a Midlands legend, a revised Band of Joy finally made it to the studio in the late 1970s, having re-grouped to play benefit gigs for the families of a local band involved in a fatal motorway crash.

The eponymous album which followed was reissued in the Summer of 2005 by Cherry Red (Band Of Joy - CDMRED 281) The band were Paul Lockey on vocals, Kevyn Gammond on guitar, Mike Chetwood on keyboards, John Pasternak on bass and Francesco Nizza on drums. This second album was recorded for Polydor but was never released by them. There was also the problem that Robert Plant saw the band's name as his and told the record company that they shouldn't use it. ‘24K’ eventually emerged through the independent Thunderbolt label after the group had split in 1979. Keyboard player Chetwood went on to join T’Pau and Kevyn Gammond and Robert Plant linked up again in the late 1990s in ‘fun’ band Priory of Bryon. When Robert Plant's ‘Best Of’ album ‘Sixty Six To Timbuktu’ emerged in 2003 there were two of the original Band of Joy demos on it.

Live
The legendary Curved Air recorded a string of innovative & classic albums in the 70'sto great acclaim, enjoying a global hit with Back Street Luv in 1971. Fronted by singer Sonja Kristina and featuring the violinist Darryl Way, by 1972 the line-up began to fracture and by 1973 the band had ground to a halt. Way formed the innovative Wolf, but in 1975 the Curved Air came together once more to tour Europe. The resulting live album is perhaps one of the bands finest, documenting all of their classic material. The Esoteric Recordings reissue has been re mastered from the original master tapes and is presented with a booklet featuring a new essay and photographs. See Curved Air at the Isle Of Wight festival in June 2008. Our Price: £10.95

As Your Mind Flies By
Rare Bird are perhaps best remembered for having the distinction of being the first act to be released on Tony Stratton Smith's gloriously eclectic label Charisma records (also the home of GENESIS, THE NICE and VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR to name but a few) and for their excellent 1970 hit single 'Sympathy'. Like fellow future Charisma stable mates Van Der Graaf Generator, Rare Bird was formed around the principle of keyboard dominated progressive rock which eschewed the use of guitars. Following the success of their debut album and single ('Sympathy'), the band recorded this classic album in the Summer of 1970. 'As Your Mind Flies By' featured the epic 'Flight', a legendary piece which dominated the albums second side. An excellent work, the album met with much success, with Billboard magazine in America declaring Rare Bird to be in the top ten best new acts of the year. Our Price: £10.95
