Happy The Man - Happy The Man

Happy The Man
· FIRST EVER UK RELEASE OF REMASTERED EDITION OF THE CLASSIC 1977 DEBUT ALBUM BY US PROGRESSIVE ROCK LEGENDS HAPPY THE MAN
· BOOKLET WITH FULLY RESTORED ARTWORK & NEW ESSAY
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the first ever UK release of the classic 1977 self- titled debut album by American Progressive Rock group HAPPY THE MAN.
Formed in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1973, the band was influenced by British progressive groups such as Genesis and King Crimson. By 1976 they came to the ear of PETER GABRIEL who considered utilising the band on his first solo album. Although this failed to materialise, the band came to the attention of Arista Records, securing a deal the same year. With a line-up of STANLEY WHITAKER (Guitars, Vocals), KIT WATKINS (Keyboards), FRANK WYATT (Sax, Flute, Keyboards), RICK KENNELL (Bass) and MIKE BECK (Drums), the band recorded their first album under the production supervision of KEN SCOTT (who had worked with Supertramp and David Bowie).
Featuring excellent pieces such as ‘Mr. Mirror’s Reflection on Dreams’ and ‘New York Dreams Suite’, the album ranks as one of the great American Progressive rock albums. This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been newly remastered and features a booklet that fully restores all original album artwork with a new essay.

Round The Back

Round the Back by Cafe Jacques. Formed in 1973 by guitarist Chris Thomson and keyboard player Peter Veitch, they signed to CBS Records in 1976

With drummer Mike Ogletree they recorded this debut album the following year with producer Rupert Hine. The sessions featured guest appearances by Phil Collins and Caravan alumni Geoffrey Richardson and John G. Perry.

Fusing influences as diverse as Caravan, Steely Dan and Genesis, the band's debut album was an impressive work. Never issued on CD in the UK before now, this release coincides with the first Cafe Jacques concerts in many years at the end of August.

Bill Fay
As a songwriter, the music written and recorded by Bill Fay has taken many years to reach the audience it deserved, thanks mainly to the American group Wilco covering Fay's 'Be Not So Fearful', a song featured on Fay's first album. Now highly regarded, Fay's debut album is now released by Esoteric Recordings. This reissue also adds Fay's first recorded offerings, the single 'Screams in the Ears' b/w 'Some Good Advice', appeared in 1967, produced by Peter Edenand featuring Southend band The Fingers, as backing band. 'Bill Fay', first released on the Nova label, was a work both sumptuous and delicately melancholic. Featuring string arrangements by jazz musician Mike Gibbs, sessions would also feature guitarist Ray Russell. Cited by Uncut magazine as 'The Missing Link Between Nick Drake, Ray Davies and Bob Dylan', Bill Fay's work now has the patronage of a younger generation of musicians to bring Fay the critical accolades he deserved. Fay's supremely creative muse has deservedly come full circle. Our Price: £10.95

Time Of The Last Persecution
As a songwriter, the music written and recorded by Bill Fay has taken many years to reach the audience it deserved, thanks mainly to the American group Wilco covering Fay's 'Be Not So Fearful', a song featured on Fay's first album. Now highly regarded, Fay's second album is now released by Esoteric Recordings. This reissue features liner notes by Bill Fay and is remastered from the original tapes. Cited by Uncut magazine as 'The Missing Link Between Nick Drake, Ray Davies and Bob Dylan', 'Time of the Last Persecution' is an altogether darker work than his debut, with sparse instrumentation provided by a band that featured Ray Russell on guitar, Alan Rushton on drums and Darryl Runswick on bass. If anything the record was a bigger creative triumph than 'Bill Fay'. Bill Fay's work now has the patronage of a younger generation of musicians to bring Fay the critical accolades he deserved. Fay's supremely creative muse has deservedly come full circle. All of his recordings for Decca are now available on Esoteric Recordings. Our Price: £10.95

The Polite Force
This now legendary debut album by Egg featured the talents of Dave Stewart on Keyboards, Mont Campbell on Bass and Clive Brooks on Drums. Egg were associated with the so-called 'Canterbury' style of rock music pioneered by artists such as Caravan and Soft Machine. The trio produced music of startling originality and energy, drawing on influences ranging from rock to jazz to psychedelia to classical. This fusion resulted in some of the most enduring releases to appear on Decca's Deram and Nova imprints and are now critically regarded as some of the more unique albums of the early 1970's. Egg's classic second album is re-mastered from the original tapes and appears alongside the reissue of 'Egg'. With these releases, the entire EGG back catalogue is now available on Esoteric Recordings. Our Price: £10.95
