Matching Mole:2cd Expanded Edition - Matching Mole

Matching Mole:2cd Expanded Edition
Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of a Deluxe 2CD Expanded edition of Matching Mole’s self-titled debut album. Formed in 1971, Matching Mole featured former SOFT MACHINE drummer ROBERT WYATT, former CARAVAN keyboard player DAVE SINCLAIR, guitarist PHIL MILLER, bassist BILL McCORMICK with guest keyboard player DAVE MacRAE. Recorded between December 1971 and February 1972, "MATCHING MOLE” was a wonderful debut that included tracks such as ‘O Caroline’, ‘Signed Curtain’ and ‘Part of the Dance’. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and is expanded to include five previously unreleased studio session alternate takes, the single versions of ‘O Caroline’ and ‘Signed Curtain’, along with two BBC Radio One sessions from 1972. The booklet restores all original artwork and includes and essay by Sid Smith.

Press:-

The self titled debut, at times close to a Wyatt solo effort, veers from the nakedly honest break-up song 'O Caroline' to instrumental jazz-rock, via the pataphysical and postmodern 'Signed Curtain'. (4/5*)

A Grounding In Numbers (Vinyl Edition)
The brand new studio album by the legendary Van Der Graaf Generator. Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of the new Van Der Graaf Generator album, "A Grounding in Numbers”. The stunning new album is the band’s 12th studio record by the band and is their first since 2008. The album will be released as both a CD and a limited edition individually numbered vinyl LP edition (restricted to 2000 copies) and will be backed up by a short tour of the UK and some dates in Europe. In April 2010 Peter Hammill, Hugh Banton and Guy Evans met up for intensive tracking sessions in Cornwall, arranging, rehearsing and recording the album in a week. Some of the pieces were already fully-formed songs; others, even at this stage, remained more sketches than fully realised works. Over the next months the tracks were overdubbed, edited and adapted by the band in their own studios. By September the project was ready to be mixed. Legendary producer Hugh Padgham agreed to take on this part of the process - the first time anyone outside the band had been entrusted such responsibility. After three weeks in Hugh’s London studio, Sofasound (which shares its name with Peter’s original home set-up), "A Grounding in Numbers” was completed. With a fantastic clarity and depth of sound and a helter-skelter stretch of tunes, "A Grounding...” sees VdGG pushing ever further forward into the twenty first century. Clearly, they know they’re a group with a certain history - but they are also an emphatically modern one.

Armageddon was one of THE great unsung bands of the mid- 1970 s. Originally released by A&M Records in 1975, Armageddon'ssole album featured some amazing music ranging from the LED ZEPPELIN-esque Paths and Planes and Future Gains to the Progressive rock of Silver Tightrope and Basking in the White of the Midnight Sun . The much overused term Lost Classic is, in the case of this record, most apt. This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been re-mastered from the original tapes and restores the original album artwork and will appeal to lovers of Progressive and Classic Rock

Snafu
East of Eden's second album, 'Snafu' was originally released in 1970 by Deram Records and saw the band take their particular fusion of jazz, psychedelia, world music and even blue beat, one step further. As ever, the instrumental prowess of Dave Arbus on violin dominated the music, leading eventually to Arbus playing the infamous violin solo on 'Baba O'Reilly' by The Who. 'Snafu' was the result of many months in the studio, before being shelved in favour of starting work on a fresh project. This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been remastered from the original master tapes and features many unreleased bonus tracks, including five previously unreleased tracks from the aborted album sessions and alternate demo and single versions of their 1971 hit, 'Jig-A-Jig'. An extensive essay features interviews and previously unseen photographs. Our Price: £10.95
