The View from the Edge
Released 18/05/09. The View from the Edge is about the rolke of percussion in modern music and is a sequel to el's previous Varese edition, The Complete Works of Edgard Varese Volume 1 (ACMEM125CD). An important restoration of the composer's earliest recordings, the edition was greeted by great critical enthusiasm and sold especially healthily on export.

Varese also has a strong base in America, mostly by virtue of the association with Frank Zappa, who for years championed the work of this genius who today is regarded now as "The Father Of Electronic Music”; a man that has been described as the Leonardo da Vinci of modern music

‘Arcana’ and ‘Ionisation’ are the composer's key works; two of the most important of the twentieth century. Leonard Bernstein's historic seventeen minute Arcana with The New York Philharmonic is amongst the rarest Varese recordings The American Percussion Society's vigorous recording of ‘Ionisation’ has been inexplicably out of print for five decades

The Oliver Messiaen pieces are his first official recordings ever, dating from 1946 & 1947, and orginally released on 78 by Pathe. Both are beautifully performed by a young Yvonne Loriod.

This now legendary debut album by Egg featured the talents of Dave Stewart on Keyboards, Mont Campbell on Bass and Clive Brooks on Drums. Egg were associated with the so-called 'Canterbury' style of rock music pioneered by artists such as Caravan and Soft Machine. The trio produced music of startling originality and energy, drawing on influences ranging from rock to jazz to psychedelia to classical. This fusion resulted in one of the most enduring releases to appear on Decca's short lived Nova imprint and is now critically regarded as one of the more unique albums of the early 1970's. Re-mastered from the original tapes, the Esoteric Recordings reissue includes three bonus tracks, including both sides of the bands only single and 'Movement 3' from the albums notorious opus 'Symphony No. 2', now restored in its rightful place in this extended composition. Released in the Summer of 1971, 'Charge' was Paladin's sencond and final album. Formed the previous year by Keith Webb and Pete Solley (both ex-members of Terry Reid's band), Paladin encompassed all that was experimental in early 70's rock. Fusing the worlds of jazz, rock and ethnic Cuban music, Paladin's second album was both more 'progressive' and hard edged in nature to their debut. Adorned in a striking sleeve designed by ROGER DEAN (artist for YES), the album became known as much for it's sleeve as the excellent music within. Recorded at The Beatles' APPLE studios and engineered by GEOFF EMERICK, the album was Paladin's finest hour featuring the classics 'Give Me Your hand' and 'Anyway'. One of the first signings to Bronze records, Paladin shared a home with URIAH HEEP, COLOSSEUM et al and were highly regarded. This remastered edition from ESOTERIC is sure to appeal to all followers of seventies progressive / classic rock. Our Price: £10.95

The Practice of Everyday Life - Celebrating 40 Years of Recordings -
The year 2011 marks the 40th anniversary of BILL NELSON's recording career and to celebrate this Esoteric Recordings announce a new release on their recently launched Cocteau Discs imprint, the lavish boxed set THE PRACTICE OF EVERYDAY LIFE Celebrating Forty Years of Recordings." This is the most extensive and detailed anthology of Bill's astoundingly creative career to date.

Over the past four decades Bill has consistently proved himself to be one of Britain's most original and creative musicians, exploring an astonishing diversity of musical styles, consistently pushing musical boundaries and earning the admiration of legions of fans throughout the world and enlightened critics alike. As a guitarist, Bill ranks as a great and uniquely gifted figure, but this eclectic selection of tracks also highlights his work as a singer/songwriter and instrumental composer.

The 1971 album Northern Dream was the first release of his illustrious career. Although recorded on rudimentary
equipment at a small Wakefield recording studio, the record was a fine early example of an independently produced album. Northern Dream was championed by the legendary DJ John Peel and paved the way for Bill's future career, beginning with his legendary band Be Bop Deluxe, (a group who recorded five successful studio albums plus a live album for EMI's Harvest label), and the equally innovative Red Noise. His acclaimed solo career continued with the release of the album Quit Dreaming and Get on the Beam , and a succession of diverse releases for both major labels and his own independent company, Cocteau Records (a venture which saw Bill become a pioneer of the do-it-yourself approach to recording and releasing music).

Track listed by Bill himself, this deluxe anthology gathers together more than 150 tracks over Eight CDs. The set begins
with his earliest recordings and includes previously unreleased material by Be Bop Deluxe, along with examples from Bill'sextensive solo catalogue, exploring a wide range of styles. The anthology also includes a selection of material from his more recent albums, self-released by Bill on his Sonoluxe label. The set is rounded off by the inclusion of a bonus CD featuring two previously unreleased BBC Radio One sessions from 1981 and 1983 respectively.

THE PRACTICE OF EVERYDAY LIFE Celebrating Forty Years of Recordings is a lavish tribute to a true original.

"Nelson’s creative restlessness manifests itself in myriad musical voyages (he even dabbles in drum’n’bass on 1996’s After The Satellite Sings), recording for the most part in his home studio to his own deadlines.”
