The World’s Smallest Big Band
Keyboard player and vocalist Eddie Hardin and drummer Pete York had first played together in the second incarnation of the Spencer Davis Group, following Steve Winwood's departure to form Traffic. In 1969 Hardin & York struck out on their own to form a highly unique duo utilising powerful Hammond Organ work and percussion to record a series of wonderful albums in the Progressive / Jazz Rock vein. 'The World's Smallest Big Band' was their second album and featured recordings made at Olympic Studios and material recorded live at De Lane Lea studios in front of a small audience. A popular attraction in Europe, the record remains a noted highlight of their career. This Esoteric Recordings reissue includes eight bonus tracks!

The Alchemist
Released on 29/03/10. Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of the classic 1973 Progressive rock album The Alchemist by Home. The band featured a line up of Mick Stubbs (guitar, piano, lead vocals), Laurie Wisefield (lead guitar, vocals), Cliff Williams (bass, vocals) and Mick Cook (drums) and had recorded two previous albums in a more conventional style before recording an album cited by many as a lost classic of the Progressive genre. Although critically acclaimed, the album failed to sell in quantities it deserved and Home disbanded the following year. With the addition of guest Jimmy Anderson on Mellotron and Synthesiser, the conceptual work also brought the guitar playing of Laurie Wisefield to the fore, eventually leading to his joining WISHBONEASH soon after the demise of Home Our Price: £10.95

Samurai
Samurai' is truly a lost classic of the Progressive era. Released on the short lived Greenwich Gramophone label in 1972, the album was influenced by the experiments of groups such as King Crimson, Gentle Giant et al, but was more than a mere clone of these bands. Evolving from the equally excellent band Web (whose album 'I Spider' is a classic of the genre), the musicianship on the album was excellent and Keyboard player Dave Lawson's compositions were groundbreaking and memorable. Sadly the group disbanded shortly after the release of the record resulting in limited sales. However, the influence of the album was not lost as both Dave Lawson and Tony Reeves soon joined Dave Greenslade to form the group Greenslade, effectively taking up the musical mantle laid down by Samurai. This Esoteric reissue features a booklet with previously unseen photographs and an interview with Dave Lawson. Our Price: £10.95
