Sunset Wading - John G. Perry

Sunset Wading
Sunset Wading' was the first solo venture for former Caravan Bass guitarist and Vocalist John G. Perry. By 1976 he had left Canterbury's finest band and had ploughed a furrow as a noted session musician and a member of Quantum Jump with producer Rupert Hine. 'Sunset Wading' saw Perry reunited with Caravan viola player and flautist Geoffrey Richardson as well as recruiting such notable musicians as Mike Giles (King Crimson), Rupert Hine and Roger Glover (Deep Purple). A fine example of mid-70's classic / progressive rock, this esoteric reissue has been remastered from the original master tapes and features fully restored artwork.

Song Of The Marching Children
Released on 31/08/09. Earth and Fire are legends of the Dutch rock scene, first making an impression with their debut single in 1969. They quickly established themselves as an international act thanks to the excellence of their material and the powerful vocals of Jerney Kaagman. In 1971 the band released arguably their finest work, 'Song of the Marching Children', a Mellotron soaked masterpiece that was a major selling album throughout Europe. Our Price: £10.95

Strange Pleasure
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to release both of the highly collectable albums by Progressive / Jazz Rock outfit Galliard. Formed in the Midlands in 1969 featuring Andrew Abbott (bass), Geoff Brown (vocals), Dave Caswell (saxophones), Richard Pannell (guitar), Les Podraza (drums) and John Smith (woodwind), this innovative group recorded their first album for Decca's Deram Nova imprint in 1970. Like many other Nova acts, Galliard failed to achieve the commercial success they deserved. Both 'Strange Pleasure' and their follow up release 'New Dawn' (also released this month by Esoteric) are among the most collectable and valuable records of the Progressive Rock genre. Following a track appearance on the recent 3CD compilation set 'Strange Pleasures' and now officially released on CD for the first time, collectors can experience the music of Galliard once more. I Spider
I Spider' is truly a lost classic of the Progressive era. Originally released by Polydor Records in 1970, the album was influenced by the experiments of groups such as King Crimson, Gentle GianT et al, but was more than a mere clone of these bands. The group evolved from an excellent blues influenced band who released three albums for Deram, who then recruited Keyboard player and writer Dave Lawson and recorded their final album. The musicianship on the album was excellent and Keyboard player Dave Lawson's compositions were groundbreaking and memorable. The group soon evolved into Samurai (whose eponymous album is also released by Esoteric this month). This Esoteric reissue is re-mastered from the original master tapes and features two bonus tracks recorded live in Sweden in 1971, a booklet with previously unseen photographs and an interview with Dave Lawson. Matching Mole:2cd Expanded Edition
Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of a Deluxe 2CD Expanded edition of Matching Mole’s self-titled debut album. Formed in 1971, Matching Mole featured former SOFT MACHINE drummer ROBERT WYATT, former CARAVAN keyboard player DAVE SINCLAIR, guitarist PHIL MILLER, bassist BILL McCORMICK with guest keyboard player DAVE MacRAE. Recorded between December 1971 and February 1972, "MATCHING MOLE” was a wonderful debut that included tracks such as ‘O Caroline’, ‘Signed Curtain’ and ‘Part of the Dance’. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and is expanded to include five previously unreleased studio session alternate takes, the single versions of ‘O Caroline’ and ‘Signed Curtain’, along with two BBC Radio One sessions from 1972. The booklet restores all original artwork and includes and essay by Sid Smith.

The self titled debut, at times close to a Wyatt solo effort, veers from the nakedly honest break-up song 'O Caroline' to instrumental jazz-rock, via the pataphysical and postmodern 'Signed Curtain'. (4/5*)

Lady Lake

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce a newly remastered edition of the legendary album by GNIDROLOG, "Lady Lake”. The band was originally formed in 1969 and signed to RCA Records in 1971. Following on the heels of the album "IN SPITE OF HARRY’S TOENAIL” (also released by ESOTERIC), "LADY LAKE” featured a line up of COLIN GOLDRING (lead vocals, guitars, recorder, tenor sax, horn, harmonica), STEWART GOLDRING (lead guitar, vocals), PETER "MARS” COWLING (bass, cello) and NIGEL PEGRUM (percussion, flute, oboe). The album saw GNIDROLOG continue to develop their unique form of Progressive Rock, which had critics compare the band to cohorts such as GENTLE GIANT and VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR. Although failing to sell in huge quantities, GNIDROLOG’s status has grown over the years with their original vinyl albums reaching huge sums among collectors. This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been newly remastered from the original master tapes and features a  previously unreleased bonus track, a booklet that fully restores all original album artwork with a new essay.
