Morricone Pops - Ennio Morricone

Morricone Pops
Morricone Pops is a collection of pop recordings arranged, conducted and / or composed by Ennio Morricone in the late fifties and early sixties; a fascinating period when he was establishing a reputation within Italy, just prior to the start of his collaborations with Sergio Leone that, as we know, brought international fame and provided cinema with a new musical language.
Whether these recordings were released as singles or were created to appear in film, Morricone invested the most throw-away pop with an extraordinary quality; as the numbers, some-times stylishly romantic, often amusingly playful, performed by such popular domestic artists as Barbara Baldassare, Eduardo Vianello, Catherine Spaak, Tony Del Monaco and Miranda Martino, attest.
Included here also are the two sides by the American folk singer Peter Tevis with the choir of Franco Potenza. Notte Infinita and Pastures of Plenty inspired Sergio Leone to commission his film scores from Morricone.
To Leone's ears the single suggested the way forward, provided an unconventional musical blueprint for the landscape of the spaghetti western; what his biographer Christopher Frayling described as "Duane Eddy meets Rodrigo in the middle of a crowded Via Veneto"
The other early film music assignments featured here include the arrangments provided for the Eduardo Vianello numbers in 1 Generale e 1/2, the Italian version of Danny Kaye's On the Double and songs written by Morricone for the Luciano Salace productions, La Cuccagna and Voglia Matta (Crazy Urge), the Walter Chiari comedy I Motorizzati and Camillo Mastrocinque's Diciottenni al sole (Eighteen in the Sun) that was set on Ischia.
Morricone Pops also presents Il Maestro's sensuous arrangements of Nune e peccato, S'e fatto tardi, Estate and Nessuno al mondo performed in Italian by the jazz legend Helen Merrill.

I Wonder What She’s Doing Tonight
The definitive Boyce and Hart collection! Bobby Hart and Tommy Boyce were popmeisters who wrote songs for the early Phil Spector productions among many others, but perhaps their best known project was The Monkees! .Turned down for roles early in the auditions, they landed the perhaps more artistically satisfying and lucrative roles as writer/producers for the music content of the show. Indeed, it was their own band, The Candy Store Prophets, who ghosted for The Monkees on their early sessions, including all the early hits and successful album tracks. Efforts by other Screen Gems writers and producers, from Neil Sedaka to The Tokens, to usurp their roles and get in on the Monkees cash bonanza were rather discouraging to our heroes, the undignified scramble leading to The Monkees decision to play their own music, and leaving Boyce and Hart out in the cold...or so it seemed...as well as continuing to contribute songs, they took a sideways leap. Effectively, they had already had a couple of number one singles and a number one album, so a "solo" (or should that be "Duo") deal with A&M was a no brainer. Tommy and Bobby set forth on a career as bona fide Pop stars in their own right, starting with a major hit in "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight" and recording three albums and a number of singles of wonderful Monkees style California pop...and why not? They were there from day one - TV appearances, tours, the usual Pop star treadmill which they'd avoided by being backroom boys beckoned. Leaving a superpop legacy of brilliant songs, for this their FIRST CD collection.

Morricone In Colour 4CD Box Set
With his peerless versatility and productivity, Ennio Morricone is one of the most famous and influential composers of the twentieth century.
Drawing from an extraordinary range of musical styles, his 500 film scores have
accompanied every conceivable musical genre.
Morricone's innovative soundscapes for Sergio Leone's mid-sixties spaghetti westerns
changed film music forever. In any context, the composer's work is a formidable
combination of eclecticism, sensuality and playfulness.
The eight film soundtracks featured in the this box set all derive from the period between the late sixties and mid-seventies when the Maestro was in his pomp. The arty erotica of Giuseppe Patroni Griffi's Metti, una sera a cena is perfectly complimented by Morricone's cool jazz score and his music gives humour and great beauty to such offbeat period pieces as Forza g and Il Gatto and the abstraction that is L'assoluto naturale (starring the Yugoslavian actress Sylvia Koscina and the superb Laurence Harvey).
Arguably the most impressive of the set are the composer's scores for the early Argento giallos, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage and Four Flies on Grey Velvet. In the former, Morricone's ominous, haunting music establishes an almost unbearable suspense and for the latter combines bracing atonality with a send up of progressive rock (the director's first experiment with such music and a prelude to Goblin)

Everything’s Shining Bright, the Lazy Recordings 1985-87 2CD
*** WE HAVE A VERY LIMITED AMOUNT OF SIGNED COPIES AVAILABLE, PLEASE ORDER NOW TO GET YOUR COPY!! ***

(PLEASE NOTE ALL SIGNED COPIES ARE NOW SOLD OUT!!)

Back in the mid-80s, The Primitives combined the fuzz guitars of The Jesus & Mary Chain with the pop sensibilities of Blondie and a nod to cult heroes The Velvet Underground. They swiftly rose from being a popular Indie guitar outfit to charting worldwide with "Crash”, kickstarting a craze in bands fronted by blonde female singers (Transvision Vamp, The Darling Buds et al).
Between 1985 and 1987, the band issued five singles/EP’s on independent label Lazy Records (also home to My Bloody Valentine and later Birdland) before signing with RCA.
Everything’s Shining Bright is named after their planned Lazy Records album, which was abandoned when the band left the label – indeed, seven of the ten previously unissued tracks here stem from those scotched LP sessions. Also unearthed is the band’s very first demo from 1985, consisting of three tracks including a dry-run through their eventual hit "Crash”.
This 2-CD set also boasts their promo-only live album at the ICA; as such, it offers their entire Lazy output from that period.
Those Lazy singles in full:
Thru The Flowers (May 1986) Indie No.20
Really Stupid (October 1986) Indie No.3
Stop Killing Me (February 1987) Indie No.2
Thru The Flowers (New Version - August 1987) Indie No.3
Ocean Blue (gig freebie 7”)
Compiled with guitarist PJ Court, this 2-CD compilation boasts re-mastered music as well as a beautifully annotated booklet boasting rare photos and personal memories from the band.

Contrabando
Los Brincos (The Leapers or The Jumpers) were the best Spanish '60s pop band, acclaimed, then and now, as the equivalent of the Spanish Beatles.
Contrabando is arguably their most complete LP; recorded in London By Larry Page - under the stylistic influence of Swinging London and such refined works as Revolver, The Zombies' Odessey and Oracle and The Kinks' Something Else - it was released in 1968 and includes the hits Lola, (no relation to The Kinks song) El Pasaporte, So Good To Dance and Nadie Te Quiere Ya. The sleeve was designed by filmmaker Iván Zulueta.
Contrabando proved the band's viability after members Juan Pardo and Junior had left to start their own career as a duo. The other original members, Fernando Arbex and Manolo González, quickly rebuilt the four-piece with Ricky Morales - Junior's younger brother - and Vicente Fernández. Los Brincos remained faithful to their beat group aesthetic, but at this point also opened up to more eclectic and playful musical and conceptual possibilities.
The album was recorded at Abbey Road, with engineer Geoff Emerick. It was essential to establish themselves in the international market and several songs were recorded in both English and Spanish. In order to help realise their international ambitions the group, enlisted the services of Larry Page, who had handled both The Kinks and The Troggs with enormous success. But all of Page's contacts weren't enough for the band to break through in the UK, where two singles were released on the producer's own, Page One, label. Still, Lola and El Pasaporte were big hits in Spain, making it clear that Juan & Junior hadn't taken the four-piece's audience with them.
On this El edition of Contrabando, the original album is augmented by all of the outstanding pop-psych single A & B sides released by Los Brincos between 1967-69.

Lately
Grammy Award Winner, Billy Paul is most noted for his R&B and Pop #1 ME AND MRS. JONES from his 1972 album 360 Degrees Of Billy Paul (CDBBR 0175). From the early 70’s through to the early 80’s Billy Paul was one of the most successful artists on the legendary Philadelphia International Records imprint scoring several hit albums and singles and securing his reputation as one of the most expressive, dynamic and heartfelt soul singers in the world.
Having released his last solo album for PIR in 1979 (First Class) Billy took a break from the studio but returned in 1985 having signed a deal with Lonnie Simmons Total Experience Records (joining new label mates the Gap Band and Yarbrough & Peoples) and cut this album, LATELY, the fifth Billy Paul album to be given the BBR re-master treatment!
Unlike his PIR recordings on which he was backed by a live band/orchestra LATELY has a fully synth/keyboard based musical backdrop produced under the direction of Total Experience staff songwriters/producers Jonah Ellis and Oliver Scott (as well as Billy Paul himself) which gave the Philly Soul singer a contemporary sound favoured by many Soul and R&B artists of the time.
Standout cuts on LATELY are Billy’s covers of ‘ON A CLEAR DAY’ and ‘I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU’, the ethereal ballad ‘LET ME IN’, ‘GET DOWN TO LOVIN’’, ‘HOT DATE’ and ‘SEXUAL THERAPY’, a track in the same vain as Marvin Gaye’s ‘Sexual Healing’.
BBR is very proud to bring you LATELY, completely re-mastered and repackaged complete with extensive liner notes and bonus content.
LATELY is a must have for all R&B, SOUL, and FUNK fans out there!
