Footnotes - Best Of (92-94)
Cherry Red is proud to announce the release of the first compilation album from former Creation Records artists Adorable. Contains tracks lifted from both their albums on Creation released in the early 1990’s, along with non-album singles and hard-to-find B-sides and all seven singles released by the band. Also included is a new edit of ‘Glorious’ from the debut ‘Against Perfection’, which is exclusive to this release. All tracks included have been deleted & unavailable for several years. The included 20-page booklet with exclusive new extensive liner notes from all four band members – especially written for this release – along with photos, classic sleeve images & items from their personal archives make this to be a rather special package!

"The best thing about this collection is that it’s a reminder of how basic indie-rock can still be thrilling.”

Missing ] on field starting at 850

Inspired by the likes of My Bloody Valentine and Ride, Chapterhouse were part of the short-lived 'shoe-gazing' scene of the early 90's, but unlike other acts who acquired a set of guitar pedals and headed off to the nearest recording studio, they mixed beats with their wall-of-sonic-guitar-fuzz to create records to stimulate both mind and feet! Newly expanded reissue of their classic debut 'Whirpool', now with all the b-sides from the singles 'Pearl', 'Falling Down' and the 'Sunburst EP'. Produced by the band along side Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), John Fryer (This Mortal Coil), Stephen Hague (New Order) and Ralph Jezzard, and featuring guest vocals from Rachel Goswell (Slowdive), with liner notes from music journalist and long-time associate Andrew Perry, along with the lyrics in full [documented here for the first time), photos, memorabilia and other clippings from the bands personal archive, and images of all of the releases featured on the album. Long deleted, original CDs of the album sell for £25+ on internet auction websites.

The Lost Weekend
Released 16th February 2009. The Monochrome Set defined themselves in the late 70s and 80s as England’s wittiest troubadours, avoiding the sombre overtones of post-punk by penning songs that had a clean 60s pop sensibility, allied to vocalist and guitarist Bid’s sandpaper-dry reflections on life and love. Re-released for the first time on CD in the UK, this CD documents the band’s time at Blanco y Negro Records, the ‘mini-major’ set up by Mike Alway (Cherry Red) and Geoff Travis (Rough Trade). It was a turbulent period for the band, recounted in full in the accompanying booklet by a reflective Bid. Including the story behind ‘Letter From Viola’, perhaps the funniest ‘Dear John’ song ever written (hint; never allow your band-mates to cut your hair while touring Norway and expect romantic favours on your return).
