Croce - Ingrid & Jim Croce

Croce
When Jim Croce’s first single for ABC Records, You Don’t Mess Around With Jim, reached the US Top Ten in the summer of 1972, it marked the emergence of a major new singer/songwriter talent. However, like most of the acts who were suddenly catapulted to stardom in the early 1970s Rod Stewart, Elton John, David Bowie etc Croce was far from being an overnight success, having served a lengthy and righteously obscure musical apprenticeship for the bulk of the previous decade. While learning his craft in the clubs, bars and coffeehouses of small-town America, he had made his vinyl debut in 1966 with the self-financed, limited edition album Facets. However, his first official release was a hugely elusive, barely-promoted 1969 album that he recorded with his wife, Ingrid, for Capitol Records. Only released at the time in North America, Croce gained a couple of US mid- 70s reissues on the back of Jims subsequent success and tragic death in a plane crash, but has never before been issued in the UK.
