Into the Garden: An Artery Collection - Artery

Into the Garden: An Artery Collection
Artery are one of the great lost bands of the post-punk era. They were widely acknowledged to be Sheffield’s answer to Joy Division. Regularly championed by the likes of Jarvis Cocker of Pulp as the steel city’s finest export, until now Artery have been denied the career appraisal they so richly deserve This collection is headed by the much admired, hugely atmospheric ‘Into The Garden’, voted fourth best record of 1981 by listeners to John Peel’s show. It also draws on highlights from their cult 1983 LP One Afternoon In A Hot Air Balloon and the mini-album Oceans The recordings feature later Mission guitarist Simon Hinkler as well as the unique presence of singer Mark Gouldthorpe, one of the most incisive lyricists and volatile frontmen of the era The package is completed with exclusive remixes and never before officially released tracks, as well as full sleeve notes and track annotation.

Dirty Laundry
This project was initiated in the summer of 1994 by keyboardist Casino Steel, formerly of the Boys, who was planning to record an album with some friends and invited Ian Hunter to join them in the studio. It was a period when Hunter was re-gathering his strength after the sad death the previous year of friend, guitarist and long-time right-hand man Mick Ronson. What emerged was a hard rocking affair that saw Hunter return closer to his Mott musical roots than he had in recent years. He likened the results to, "62-era Stones (with) lots of Dylan references". The roll call of musicians involves reads like a British punk/new wave who's who! It is particularly worth noting guitarist's Honest John Plain and Darrell Bath. Bath could list the UK Subs, Dogs D¹Amour and the Godfathers on his CV while Plain had been a Lurker and, with Steel, one of the Boys. A link with the frontmans Mott the Hoople past showed up in the shape of Blue Weaver, who took turns on keyboards with Casino Steel. Sex Pistols bass player Glen Matlock completed the cast list. This release consists of twelve songs; three are Hunter songs, four Hunter collaborations and the other five originate from the rest of the band. The backing tracks were laid down at Abbey Road studios, and then vocals were added in Oslo, Norway. A long awaited CD!

Press:-

"Marking Hunter’s return to the studio, it’s also notable for including well known British punk and new wave musicians Honest John Plain (guitar/vocals), Darrell Bath (guitar/vocals), Glen Matlock (bass) and Vom Ritchie (drums), giving the record a rocking, full band sound that harks back to Hunter’s Hoople days.”
